That's what I hope to accomplish. Do you have any tips on how to instill this in you kids? It's just at a young age I already see her singing songs that are religious in nature. That sticks with a person.

Well then you have a very loose interpretation of the Bible. Especially Genesis.

There are a lot of good reasons to dismiss the authority of the Bible, but this isn't one of them. It's pretty easy to simply call the creation account allegorical, especially since it is essentially a mishmash of Sumerian creation stories taken on during the Babylonian exile.

Not to mention that the largest denomination of Christianity on earth openly accepts evolution.

Trust your children to make up their own minds, like you did.

Those people are the ones that make the rest of us Christians look bad.

I just hate non Christians thinking that just because I'm a Christian...that I'm supposed to act perfect and never cuss or judge someone or be rude to others. When I'm human and far from perfect and while at times I do try to do my best....I'm still prone to making a huge mess of things and letting my personality defects get the best of me.

And...just because I'm Christian...doesn't mean I know every single answer to all the questions thrown at me about the specifics of Christianity. Things that no one on this side of Earth could ever possibly know.

treat them like their opinions matter, and treat them like adults as soon as they are

Hell isn't only a Christian belief. Let's trry and keep religion out of this so it doesn't get whacked I'm talking about your family's beliefs impacting your children in a negative way.

Well everyone likes to rewrite the Bible the way they see fit, isn't surprising now is it.

How do you think your family would react if you gently told them your beliefs?

No I think all Christians should believe in those things.
I thin you are wrong & if that's what it takes to be Christian, only dumb people will believe

You were exposed to those ideas and resisted them. Why not give your children the autonomy to make their own decisions about what they believe rather than try to shield them from particular viewpoints?

Well then, what beliefs? I think you have to attack each type differently. Like for example, my sister doesn't want my mom to give her son junk food. So she tells her stop giving him junk food. If she doesn't, she bitches my mom out.

Atheist here. For me, it was more of a gradual thing. I never really enjoyed going to church as a kid, and always felt like there was something I was missing. My dad is not religious (not an atheist though) and never went, so I would always ask "How come Dad doesn't have to go?" I think my parents knew for a while, so I didn't really have to say. They've been great with it. My extended family is pretty religious though, so I play along on family visits.

I used to be against religion in general, but now I have the mindset that if it works for you and you're not hurting others physically or emotionally, then go for it.

ETA: Don't have children yet, so I can't answer that part.

They would think I'm going to hell. haha. To be honest though, they aleady know how I believe, and they feel sorry for my child because they are afraid I'm not going to teach her in the ways they were brought up, very conservatively.
