You think only dumb people will believe in evolution?

I was saying I think all Christians should believe in evolution.

Well you have to understand that if they do feel that strongly in their beliefs...then of course they would want their loved ones to share them. If they believe in eternal damnation,etc....then wouldn't they want those that they loved to avoid that?

I get you believe differently. But at least understand them wanting to teach your children those ways stems from their love for you and your children.

However I can nurture this, I will.

But.... I was exposed to those beliefs, and I know how they impacted me (panic attacks, nightmares, etc.) I know many others who were impacted the same way. I want to prevent that bull shite from ever touching my most precious and lovely daughter.

I think the key here is if your family is doing it in a loving and encouraging way, then let it happen and let your children make their own decision... If they are calling your kids and telling them they are gonna go to hell like my family did to me... might be time to step in and give them a good rogering.

As a child, were you raised to make your own decisions? If so, did you make some huge mistakes that you wouldn't want your child to make? I'm not saying to not allow your children to make choices of their own; I'm just saying be careful with the idealistic mindset of "I want my child to make their own choices." As a parent, you provide influence to your children to steer them in the direction you feel is most beneficial for them - in time, they will come of age and maturity and decide whether or not to continue accepting that influence...

That's what makes it so tough. They are WONDERFUL people, and my dad is my role model. It is so hard that I can't logically follow what they believe, or morally follow what they believe. I know they think they are doing good, but from my perspective, they are doing harm. That's precisely what makes it so hard.

I don't want anyone filling up my kids' heads with nonsense. They'll be familiar with Christianity bc it's a cultural thing but not on a religious level.

Well I don't see how you can believe in Genesis (literally) and believe in evolution.

Honestly if God (or Jesus) showed up one day and said this part of the Bible was written this way so that people of that time would understand it and we didn't wanna freak them out and confuse them with evolution... I'd probably say... yeah, that makes sense... sign me up. But why call myself a Christian if I don't believe in a lot of what is in the Bible?

If you said do you believe in the Golden Rule, I'd say absolutely.

If you said do I believe in a higher power, possibly... maybe even the Christian version.

If you said do I believe the earth was created in 7 days along with all the animals and man? I'd say nope, no way.

Well, I mean... if some dude showed up today and said he was God or Jesus... would you just believe him without some proof? You're from Louisiana... I'm sure you can find plenty of guys claiming to be Jesus in New Orleans.

There are contradicting ideas that go with evolution and base christian belief. You will step on many toes by saying Adam wasn't first man and eve was made from his rib. I personally believe in creation by design, I try to be a good person because I think the higher power (God) intends everyone to be that way, I take messages from the bible as analogies to apply to my own life, I think science and religion go together this way and it is the most plausible explanation for creation, over examining anything else beyond that is pointless because there are things the human race will never be able to fathom and comprehend.
