The controversy surrounding Nike Inc.’s new Colin Kaepernick ad can’t be a surprise to the sportswear company. And in spite of the backlash, it’s probably pretty good for the brand.

In less than 24 hours since Kaepernick first revealed the spot on Twitter, Nike received more than $43 million worth of media exposure, the vast majority of it neutral to positive, according to Apex Marketing Group. That far outweighs the risk of alienating some customers, said Bob Dorfman, a sports marketing executive at Baker Street Advertising.

What’s more, he said, the move sends a strong signal to their current roster of athletes and positions Nike as a savvy risk-taker. “It’s not a move that any company can make, but for Nike it’s definitely smart business,” Dorfman said.

I dont believe you. Like 10 people on here that they would never buy Nike again.

That has to be worth millions right?

I think it would be funny to see a picture of the sweatshop workers printing shirts with kaepernick's face on the shirt.

I just realized I've been wearing Nike sweat pants all day.

No wonder I felt especially woke today.

Is this a joke?

Risk of losing "some" customers?

Honestly i dont care. If the shoes are quality i will buy them. If they suck i dont care who made them i wont buy them.

Never understood why companies say this like it means something.

Its negative exposure that pissed off a lot of people.

And?

ETA - mind you, the market has been hurt many times this year by tariff announcements...

ETA.2 - judging the impact of an announcement by the one day move in stock price is a fool's game. It's dumb when people do it to tariffs and it's dumb to use it against Nike here.

Nike is a prime candidate for tariff pain with all those poor enslaved Chinese toddlers making their products.

Ben Shapiro made a great point, Kap didn’t sacrifice everything. His NFL career was almost over. He’s made himself more $ in the long run as this woke dummy.
