There are significant increases in urban violent crime across the country really. Not exclusive to NOLA, BR, or Jackson.
This is the 12th time you’ve commented on stating the exact same thing.

I know a man who will be 89 years old soon, he left Jackson, MS in the early 1950s and has never looked back - he said it was terrible then

On of the offices that I work at is in Jax. The city has been in a state of decline since the 90’s. All the money has moved out to the surrounding town. The infrastructure is shot there are street with potholes so bad people plant trees in them so you won’t run into them an ruin their car. The whole city stays on an boil water alert. It’s so bad the state government won’t even take it over because it would cost to much to fix it. I have been to multiple third world countries that are in better shape than Jackson. The murder rate is nothing new I think per capita it ranks one of the most dangerous cities in the US

Here's demographics from 2019. Draw your own conclusions. Keywords are Democratic, Progressive and Activist.

Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba (born March 29, 1983) is an American attorney, activist, politician serving as the 53rd mayor of Jackson, Mississippi.
He was first elected in 2017. In the primary, Lumumba soundly won the Democratic nomination, defeating incumbent mayor Tony Yarber and John Horhn, a state senator. Lumumba went on to win the general election in a landslide. Lumumba is a self-described Progressive.

The left leaning ideology is weird. The worst things get, the more of it they want. Its a bizarro world.
They need dysfunction to usher in the revolution. They'll double down on stupidity.

The issue with Jackson, to me, is there aren't as many areas to get away from the crime as there are in Memphis, and from what I remember Baton Rouge and to a lesser extent New Orleans.
There are - Rankin and Madison county. And once you move there you stop caring about what the people in Jackson do to themselves.
The mayor and city council in Jackson are doing everything they can to push out business and young people.

A large segment of the Jackson population has no idea how to solve their problems (drugs, women, turf, road rage, someone else's failure to show respect. loss of unemployment benefits, the easy woman they been visiting finds a new sexual partner, all the Dollar Generals have been robbed so many times, they no longer keep any cash in the register, car jacking gone bad, any of a hundred beer joint encounters gone bad, etc.), so they use the gun they bought from some guy down the street to pop someone. Maybe it is the cause f their problem, and maybe it isn't.
It's all so complicated. PoPos almost always catch them eventually and then the court system here lets them out with no bail bond, because they are poor and have always gotten the short part of life. They celebrate being out on bail to do the very same thing within a week or two.
Almost unheard of to see someone arrested and not also (in addition to everything else),charged with "Felon in possession of aa firearm"

Madison and Rankin counties are actually damn nice areas.

The violence in America is growing at a staggering rate. Racism claims are driving a lot of it. Lower police action/presence, democratically controlled cities = more violence.
Lexington, which has always generally been peaceful has shootings almost daily now.

after some research, i think i found your answer
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson,_Mississippi#Demographics
quote:
The racial makeup of the city was 79.4% Black or African American, 18.4% White or European American, 0.1% Native American, 0.4% Asian, and 0.9% from two or more races. 1.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.[80] Non-Hispanic Whites were 18% of the population in 2010,[80] down from 60% in 1970.[37]
also, it's white peoples' fault...
quote:
Jackson has steadily seen a decline in its population, while its suburbs have had a boom. This change has occurred in part due to white flight,[77]
in summary: the city is 80% black and in the throes of violent crime and historic murder rates, but it's white people who don't live there's fault because they moved away from the violence and murder.

prob white supremacist attacks

Depends on where and what time. You can figure that out on your own. Remember Jackson has Flowood, Ridgeland and Madison. They are havens for nervous white people.
But Jackson has more to offer than any other city in the state. If I had I choice I would choose JXN or Southhaven.

I wonder if he is part of the New Afrika movement, like his father (also a Jackson mayor) was?
