Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced Canada is banning assault-style weapons.
Trudeau cited numerous mass killings in the country, including one of its deadliest that occurred in Nova Scotia in April and resulted in the deaths of 22 people.
Trudeau said the order has a two-year amnesty period for current owners.
"You do not need an AR-15 to take down a deer," Trudeau said. "So, effective immediately, it is no longer permitted to buy, sell, transport, import or use military-grade, assault weapons in this country."
“These weapons were designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time. There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada,” said the prime minister. “Effective immediately, it is no longer permitted to buy, sell, transport, import or use military-grade assault weapons in this country.”

Wonder what kind of weapons aren't used to assault people.

I don't know about Canadian laws but deer hunting isn't the intent of the 2nd amendment.

It's a shame when government sees itself as smarter than the population. I hope they fight for their rights up there.

So racist to assume the black one is scary.

If the people can't have it, the police shouldn't have it either.

Also, you can buy a ac556 cheaper than a m16.
Google that.
Google that.

Literally any weapon you think of was once used in military form and any weapon can be used to assault someone.

Yes, the Germans, The Russians, Bosnians, Japanese, and the world would agree
Which is exactly why the 2nd amendment is the most important of all amendments. Everything is contingent on it, for without it, there is no checks and balance in place to safeguard the other rights.
Canada subscribes to no such rights, but that’s no protection for them from the hands of an all powerful Government.

If I was Canadian I would let out a big sigh of relief, since I don't have any M16 or M4 military grade rifles.

Really crap part is almost all of the guns up there are registered. So yeah, the po po knows who, what, when and where as it pertains to who has what guns. Thank god for the 2nd (even in watered down form) because Australia, New Zealand, and now Canada are examples of what would happen to us without it.
