A stretch of North Carolina I've always enjoyed is Hwy 276 from Brevard through the Pisgah forest to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Don't sleep on 276 from Brevard to South Carolina, either. Ceasar's Head, Mountain Bridge Wilderness, DuPont, etc. If you haven't been to Pretty Place, seek it out.

I attended Brevard College and fully endorse both of these. The other ride I enjoy is up 178 from South Carolina into Rosman, but I do prefer 276 over it.

The Carvers Gap to 19E is one of the best little sections of the AT.

Absolutely. I have a friend who used to live near Ceaser's Head and it really is a nice area. If it were feasible for me I would retire there

Inlaws have a cabin in Boone/Blowing Rock area. It’s such a great place. It’s definitely a retirement option.

Cool to see so many tazewell connections here.

There’s a good chance my grandfather knew your wife’s family. He was a cattle and sheep farmer in Burkes Garden.

Burkes Garden is indeed very isolated. Never seen anything like it in my life. Had their own phone system, no cops and very tight knit.

I tend to avoid boone, but Linville falls, banner elk, sugar mountain, or 7 devils are all good in my book.

My grandparents used to have a house in Banner Elk. I really miss that place since our family is mainly in Alabama and The FL Panhandle.

Fun Fact: the road going up to Grandfather Mountain is where one of the mountain running scenes in Forrest Gump was filmed

Visited NC Piedmont area a while back. Want to go explore more of the state, and I definitely have an eye on it for retirement.

I live right in the middle of the Piedmont. Too many companies and people are moving here. All roads are getting expanded, another beltline, tons more neighborhoods.

We live in a smaller town, Kernersville. Small town feel with a great little historic downtown. But there's more and more people moving to this area.

I don't like it.

That's kind of a weird thing to focus on considering the stars in the night sky are the same everywhere in the country and it just needs to be dark for them to look good.

Yes, the stars look just the same in NYC when it's night as they look in Montana when it's night

It’s a great town. I called on the hospitals in the area and would always stay there.
