Shrinkanomics

You can find several articles but one interesting way was moving their production to the markets they sell to and utilize the labor there. It is also why they focused so much on robotics

That is wild but makes sense. One thing I was struck by when we went to Tokyo and Japan was how small and intimate restaurants and bars were. NYC has a lot of sprawling restaurants that can seat large numbers. Tokyo is filled with tiny store fronts and restaurants that seat 8-16 people at a time.

Japan is great for a number of reasons that you already described, the respect they show in almost everything they do is unrivaled.

Although they do have a downfall of extreme depression and an overworking mindset (that may not be bad to some people but they take it to the extreme).

The thing is, what makes their society great now is what also made them heinous pre WW2. They are extremely fanatical and isolationist.

Eta: also their isolationism and being a small island has resulted in somewhat of "inbreeding". What most people don't know is there are a ton of Japanese people with jacked up grills. So many of the cute girls open their mouth and turn into a megladon.

People are delusional if they think Japan is some wonderful place free of problems.

One of the biggest factors in their culture is saving face. So of course, on the surface, things look amazing. That's the entire point. They want you to think that. What you don't see are all the problems that are covered up and they pretend don't exist.

I care about human trash and violence. If those aren't around, I don't give a shite about someone's inner turmoil. They can can go to the suicide forest and off themselves, just leave other people out of it.

Yeah sure, the Republicans had nothing to do with it, right? Talk about a laugh. Trickle down economics really helped Americans didn't it?

How was the hunting? What about the ranches and wide open spaces? Any good backyard BBQs? I’m sure Japan was great to visit but you won’t catch me pining to live in a tiny island country with folks packed in like sardines. I’ll stick with the good ole US of A, warts and all.

Japan has rural areas and countryside. It's not all Tokyo, just like New York is not all New York City.

Every time there is a mass shooting in a place that doesn’t typically have a lot of crime there is a crowd that applies some sort of whataboutism using Chicago. I’m not sure what is the point of that.

Mass shootings are often a mental health issue. They are horrible, but affect a minuscule amount of people compared to regular crime and gun violence.

The Chicago angle is just an illustration of the hypocrisy around the issue. Ten people get shot in a mass shooting, then nationwide calls to "just do something" begin with politicians clamoring for gun laws, etc.

Twenty people get killed in a weekend in Chicago, and there is not a word said. In fact, they claim it's no big deal.

You got it.

The birth rate is abysmal which is why they too will resort to mass immigration soon enough though

They should begin a highly-screened immigration plan, with educated and productive people. There are plenty of valuable immigrants around the world that would be a net benefit to any country. The problem is mass immigration of unscreened people.

It's a high trust society. Low diversity makes that easier to accomplish, but it's not required. Humans are inherently tribal.

Is this your way of saying that you believe Japan could retain the attributes extolled in this thread if it had open borders and a lot of non-Asian migrants?

Indeed.

In a high tech age, you cant import millions of illiterates and expect them to succeed.

We do it so people can afford pool guys and lawn people. Our own laziness.

It made me sad how shite America has become. To put it simply it’s Like America if we actually enforced our laws.

-No fatties
-I saw like one homeless person and he was picking up trash
-No mentally Ill people running the streets
-No gay stuff thrown in you face but gay folks were around being normal gay
-No trash on the street
-No one begging for change
-No street hustlers at tourist spots
-Subways clean and safe
-Women and children walk freely at night
Now look at their fiscal situation. Their debt is crazy.

Lol bitch, I can handle the internet. I'm not going around writing such wonderfully, retarded koan such as 'They control their environments - that’s the difference.'

Look at the big brain on Steve!

Their fiscal situation is driven by one thing, which is their declining birth rate. That is always going to decrease consumer demand in the country itself, which requires a more expansive monetary policy abroad.

That's the downside to these 'monoculture' idiots. Birth rates worldwide are declining except in immigrant groups and no one has developed a solution that has raised the TFR of a country above replacement once it has fallen below replacement.

The United States is about the only successful society that is extremely diverse and equal. Weve done it better than anyone, but all the new uneducated and poor will be an anchor.

The price we pay for "exotic restaurants."

Japan will have to accept steep economic declines under the current demographics. Hopefully they import smarter, more educated people than we do.

I'm not sure it's the ONLY thing. I actually read an article recently arguing it was vastly overplayed as a driver. In any event, half the posts on the boards here are about our debt. I just thought the cognitive dissonance was amusing.
