I’m thinking that a potential new buyer would want the union gone,

I guess, but are there really that many union employees out there?

You retards don't even have a clue how much the tax base can improve with these companies. I'm sure you are one of the under-educated loons that whine about tax breaks and is absolutely clueless that this refinery still provided more than $20,000,000/year to the local economy.

It's a stupid argument. Either a new factory gets built here or somewhere else.

You can voluntarily not collect taxes on the new factory for 10-15 years and get the benefits of having hundreds of employees locally - earning and spending in your state..

or you can not collect taxes on the new factory because it went to Texas or Mississippi instead along with it's employees.

The shell operators at Convent were union.

Don’t really want to lol but if it comes to it I may have to broaden my search. I’m not direct Shell, work for an EPC and they were my main client. I think my firm has some other work I can shift to so we shall see. Not quite to the point that I’m actively looking to make a move yet

Just sucks. I know a lot of people out there and it’s a terrible situation.

Early bird, worm, and all that. The majors act long before anyone sees it coming.

Right, but that's the upper crust of employees there. If you walk around the site you probably see 10 people who work for Fluor-Daniel or Halliburton or whatever for every 1 operator.

Family owned company.
You would have to move.
Nephew works for them and the treat him right. He says he likes his job.
Each division maybe different but get a lot of vacation time after the first year.
Usually 3 weeks if you have work experience.
He is up to four weeks.

Guess they knew Biden would win the election.

Yep, he was "elected."

I hate Biden and his kind, but as others have pointed out, this was already in the works for a long while.
We just need it to not get way worse next year.

Dismantling the plant will create a lot of jobs though in 30 years

With a refinery sitting on that piece of real estate for 50+ years, I will surmise that an environmental clean up is in store for either Shell or the new buyer, if and when there is one.

That will create some jobs, albeit temporary.

They might be able to skirt that by leaving it an operating site. Tank farm and such.
