Dismantling the plant will create a lot of jobs though in 30 years

I promise you it won’t be dismantled, and will start back up some time in the future. Basically once people start flying again, it will be turned back on.

Possibly but eliminating the entire work force and the longer it sits there the less likely it will be.

From what it sounds some of the labor will be absorbed into the other nearby sites.

If the market ever turns for Shell to reopen (which doesn't sound likely) then they could move labor back.

If someone buys there is plenty of labor force to fill the necessary spots.

Any valuable team members / plant manager / up-and-comers will get shifted. Wont be many.

Plus, this could mean people at the other sites might get the boot to make room for one of these Convent employees. If you make the same barrels of product but add staff, you lose margin.

Offer packages and make room. Not increase numbers.

Possibly a temporary increase in numbers to prevent hiring due to normal attrition.

I passed by this site the other day and there were as many cars at the refinery as ever (not admin), flares going, smoke stacks, etc. Didn't appear to be slowing down at all. Is the plan still the same?

You don’t flip a light switch to turn off a refinery! Yes it’s still the plan, my nephew works out there and they’re shutting it down. He’s applying at other plants and still the possibility of being moved to a different Shell facility.

Shell is famous for spending 100s of millions on projects, acquisitions, grand plans etc and then abandoning them.. its their M.O.

I believe they're still dping construction on a new Hydrogen unit. They still may be bought out, but plenty of folks may be out of a job until then.

It’s a lot of work to shutdown, decon, and prepare equipment to be mothballed. It’s almost like preparing for a turnaround, just without the work that follows.

Tons of steam used for cleaning, flares for draining hydrocarbons, and people to operate this equipment safely.

Yup it’s happening. Anyone hiring Instrument Engineers?

Not sure if you would be willing to travel, but go to Fluor's website, they always have a lot of jobs available and they are a good company to work for.

Energy demand is lowered as we become more energy efficient. The model that companies like Shell are going to is integrated chemical/refining facilities. Demand for petrochemical products is growing. Stand-alone refineries isn’t where you want to be investing.

This might be a small factor, but with more people working at home more than ever before, I am sure that has an impact on demand as well right?

I heard someone say the other day "once biden takes office gas will go up to almost $5 a gallon". I was just thinking "I remember in 08 when gas was around that price.. There was a lot of work" But then a few months later the economy went to shite, but I am not sure how biden or any other president taking office will cause the gas prices to shoot up.

Wellllll increasing ultra restrictive regulations on domestic production and shutting down KXL will certainly be a damn good start.

The only restrictive regulations facing domestic O&G are the price of oil and lack of cash flow.

It's only Biden's first full day in office.

ETA And obviously this will probably wait until the demand picks back up...which it has been slowly

Some of the ppl on here seem pretty informed.

Do you have to at least keep a skeleton maintenance crew on site if you hope to sell down the road? Plant air? Steam? Cooling water? Do they still any of those while they are shuttered waiting for a hopeful sale?

You are either the grandest troll of all time, or the absolute dumbest poster on all of TD.
Your post history explicitly suggests the latter.
