Shell Convent processes 240,000 barrels per day.
Exxon Baton Rouge processes a little more than 500,000 per day.
Marathon Garyville (the largest in the state) processes 564,000 per day.

[A large percentage of the population? Scared little sheeple who probably voted for Biden. Remove the mandates and see what happens to the economy.]
Uh, a majority of the country just voted for Biden. As the case numbers continue to go up and break records, you think that gives people confidence to go out and do more?

Case numbers are up? Of course they are. They are testing way more than they used to. Again.... stay home if you are scared. Quit dictating what the rest of us can do.

They are actually looking into building a lot of the modules for that plant in state now instead of overseas which would be huge for local companies

Taking a step back from the virus debate, I feel terrible for the folks who work at the refinery. A lot of good jobs in a community that really needs them. How much worse can 2020 get?

That’s what people are doing and buying less gas in the process.

Agree. There just aren't a lot of good paying jobs in this state and now we are losing a lot of them.
And normally you could just suggest people move somewhere else. Not many jobs anywhere else now either.
And to think that a year ago there was some strong rumors that Shell was considering an expansion of some kind at Convent(maybe something with LNG or something else)

Would be nice if Motiva just bought it back and kept business going as usual
Posted on 11/5/20 at 6:11 pm to NatalbanyTigerFan
They're not building a chemical plant. BioDiesel expansion.

I was surprised Motiva didn’t make some acquisitions over the past few years in the US. Of course I know why they wouldn’t have done it very recently, but they were kind of expecting to expand their US footprint

And Bel reacts by extending the statewide closure another month.
Posted on 11/5/20 at 6:21 pm to Icansee4miles
We had 300 cases today out of a state of 4.6 million. Hunker down.

While that POS pushes more testing using everything from Happy Meal bribes to no testing/no tickets on LSU students. Screw that MF

It's ok, we're shutting down fossil fuel production in the US anyway next year. Best get a head start before hundreds of thousands of other baws join the job market.

Well the Joe Biden effect is already kicking in. Boy this is going to be a real cluter***k watching this clown destroy this surging economy.

This reminds me of what happen when Shintech came to Plaquemine.. Well.. the first plant is actually in West Baton Rouge.
When they were about to start building here this old dude lead a small group of protesters to fight them so they wouldn't build in Iberville Parish. Shintech just moved where the original site would be a couple of yards (it was more than a couple, but relatively speaking it wasn't a lot) into West Baton Rouge parish so instead of paying taxes in Iberville, they pay it in WBR..
People need to look at shite before they start protesting.

I'm sure Shell will have job placement but hopefully you don't have to move if your affected
Job placement where? This is the same company that just announced layoffs of 7000-9000.
A few hand selected people will land, but the majority of that 700 are kicking rocks.

You want to see a real cluster***k? Wait till the provisions of AOC's Green New Deal kicks in, and you're paying $4.50/gal for gasoline.....and you're unemployed. Or how about all you yuppies when your pedigree Yorkshire Terrier starts barking at 6:00 in the mornin because your Section 8 Methhead neighbor is pissing in your frontyard. THAT I wanna see.
This will be so much fun to watch.
