just had to explain to my coworkers that the US is the only country to land on the moon

with live people. They were discussing one of our international offices having paid paternity leave because of the country's laws and they were talking about how great that country is. I (a true American) made the joke that there are 2 kinds of countries, countries with paid paternity leave and those who can put a man on the moon. Not that this was even a great or accurate joke or anything but it triggered them to all collectively respond "what? plenty of countries have paid paternity leave and have been to the moon". I didn't really know what to say other than to pull it up and prove to them that there have only been 12 people to set foot on the moon all of which are Americans sent by NASA.
This is also a range of people from their early 20's to their 50's. I was shocked at how many people really don't know their history.

I misread your thread title and thought you said that the US is NOT the only country that has landed on the moon. I felt like an idiot for a second.
I really have never thought about if any other country has landed on the moon, I guess I just inadvertently assumed.

Actually, if you watch the moon landing backwards, it’s about 3 aliens swimming in the Pacific Ocean and flying home for a round of golf.

Somehow CNN is at fault for this.

I can see how they would be confused..considering some people's level of education.
