I'm glad you realized there is better than maytag out there.
I would also say. Since you are handy to change your agitator dogs. They are something I generally change anytime I touch a DD. they are probably only a dime in ebay.

I don't know, maybe so you could have drained the washer and went on about life instead of waiting on a part to show up lol...

Lol. I chuckle inside when I see this issue and the customer tells me they spent a long time bailing water and I go insert a jumper and the machine drains and spins like new.

On my past washers, when the switch goes out I just bypass the switch and jumper the wire permanently together. Kinda neat to be able to watch the whole cycle without the lid being closed. Obviously these are older top-load washers.

Only need a 7/16 socket.
These are the plastic tabs that have the agitator lock.
Easiest job ever on a machine.

One more tip.
By now you know to force the machine to spin you simply set it to spin and bypass the switch or close the door. But to agitate it has to fill with water.
Well you can test the agitate function without water.
Line the knob up with that small unmarked line at the 10 o clock position and pull the knob. This will start the agitate test.
Grab the auger, if you can easily stop it, you need new dogs.
Or... Grab it, it should pin freely when off in one direction, but be impossible to turn on the other.

I learned about these a few months ago when noticed my open-lid running washer wasn't agitating hardly at all. Don't know how long it had been like that but the "dogs" were all soft/brittle. Few bucks on ebay had that thing agitating like a fresh Trump tweet.

just pulled the agitator apart.
i had 3 out of 4 dogs and the remaining ones were in pretty poor shape.
i may just pick these up locally. thanks for the tip!

I'd dead drop a set somewhere and you could grab them.
Bought a hundred packs of them for $25 a while back.

Success story is a good read.
Friend of mine in Louisiana had trouble with her Kenmore electric dryer. I told her during a phone call that it was the $5 door switch. I had just replaced mine but live in Alabama and she had to have her’s fixed quickly. Service guy comes out, installs the $5 switch and charges $150. She knew it would cost near that but bit the bullet.
If only she would try copying the steps in anyoutube vid. Oh well!

In the spirit of keeping ourselves alive, here's a tip. When replacing parts on a dishwasher, say, the handle, disconnect the power first.
