I'm going to copy and paste a comment made a month ago about this subject. Props to LSUpimp for laying it out so well.

quote:

You gain comfort by dressing down but you lose something too . Dressing appropriately to big events is a way to bestow honor and respect upon that event . It’s something that is cross - cultural and universal to mankind . We dress in our best to our more significant events - it’s a sign of mutual respect - to each other and to our larger culture. As that is being lost, it is likely that the significance of those events and the respect we extend to others are being diminished as well .

What is better...the person that is wearing jeans that goes on a regular basis because they want to go OR the person in a suit that only goes once a year because a relative dragged them along?

What is so difficult about putting on a pair of khaki fricking pants?

This is a good answer.

On a related note, I notice I’m always more productive at work when I wear a suit than when i dress down.

This is funny, I once attended a church where the preacher told women to dress more appropriately, because it was giving the men erections.

The older I get, the less I understand why we should dress up for church. Do we think God is keeping track of our outfits?

God intended us to be naked anyways until Eve ate the forbidden fruit

Reminded me of the old bluegrass tune, Let Me Walk, Lord, By Your Side

Fire up Gospel Medley by Blue Ridge, which includes a terrific version of this song.

quote:

In a church on Sunday morning
Sat a man unwelcomed there
Judged by men and not by Jesus
Lifted up his voice in prayer

Steer me on the righteous pathway
Help me humbly to abide
Hold me to your precious bosom
Let me walk, Lord by your side

I wore khakis with my boots to mass. Finished off the look by wearing my tech vest.

Dressing nicely shows respect for the institution

Exactly what’s wrong with the Christianity. More concerned with appearance and the four walls than reaching out to anyone lost.

If I can make the “institution” feel more approachable by dressing casually then I’m going to do it. Many folks may not have the means to afford the types of clothes I wear and I’m not about to let that be a barrier to the gospel.

Sounds like you should have spent a little more time listening to what was being said and a little less time worrying about what people are wearing. It's exactly people like you that keep people from visiting churches.

Wow another judgmental catholic, surprise!

Just another reason I do not attend your silly practices anymore.
