I'm 27 years old so I guess this is a little bit later than most people. Only reason I got it extracted is because it broke off about a month ago. Anyways, what IS dry socket? Like what does that mean?

I'm a smoker and I'm trying to weigh my options on not being able to smoke for 48 hrs or smoking and POSSIBLY getting dry socket. The dental assistant said she saw grown men crying like girls from it. You think that's an exaggeration or does dry socket really suck that much?

I. NEED. NICOTINE.

I believe dry socket is when the nerve beneath the tooth hole becomes exposed to the air with no liquid film over it.

See, this is the benefit of living in Alabama. Nobody there has this problem.

I had mine removed last year at 30. I still smoked & smoked weed from a glass pipe. Had no issues. I know they warn you, and I've also heard if you do it to put a cotton ball when/if you do - I didn't. I'd suggest to Google more info if you are concerned.

Not worth a smoke IMO, dry sockets can be fixed quickly by the oral surgeon or dentist but the time getting there will make you pray for death. Maybe look at it as a time to quit smoking?

Is this how people in Alabama know it's time to get their wisdom teeth removed, when they start cracking and breaking off little chunks in their mouth?

Okay it sounds like it would take a lot to get dry socket. Has anyone actually had dry socket though? She was talking about it like theres no worse pain on this planet.

I agree. I just had to get this one taken out because it broke off and was causing immense pain.

Yes, It is like having a red hot poker jammed into your gums and jaw. I had severe appendicitis and it hurt less than a dry socket. I got mine drinking from a straw FWIW

Just buy a few patches or use this as an opportunity to try to quit.

I got my wisdom teeth removed when they started coming in crooked when I was about 25 or so.
That is the first time I had major dental work done.
I never had anything else done until I just got a crown last year.
