I agree.
I have appealed multiple times with blended results, but it's always worth a shot to cherry pick your own comparables for the tax appeal, and thereby also lay down a record should you wish to appeal to the state district court should you lose.
There are also contingency companies that handle that process but I've never used one.
Also, do you have a homestead exemption? That can limit increases.
Good luck!

I mean, I really don't feel bad sitting on the sidelines right now and renting. It feels weird after owning a home for so long, but new city, new job, potential market peak, it was just to much to risk losing my shirt if I don't stay here long term.
It sucks this is making homes unaffordable for people who already bought, this won't end well and the politicians (local, city, parish, state and fed) are too stupid to see they are fueling the fire towards a crash. They can't collected taxes if they chase away all the people.

If I knew I could sell my house "as is" for the assessed value, I'd sell tomorrow.
And then what? Enjoy the 7+% interest and inflated prices on another place?

I’m pretty sure this is why the Mayans left their fancy pyramid cities. Taxes too high.

The Special Assessment Level allows someone who meets certain requirements to have the assessed value of the property frozen.
My mother has had this in Jefferson Parish for years. In 2023 she paid around $100 in property taxes on a $400k house.

House in Nola has increased over 100% every year since Covid 2020.

We raised our house 5 feet due to flooding and the lifting co had to get a parish work permit. A work permit dooms you to a higher rate.

Assessed value of my pad increased $80k from last year.

Vote that fricker out.
Assessed values being above the market value is extremely out of line.

this guy must love paying taxes
Mine came in the Mail yesterday and i probably wont even open it for a few weeks because i already know what its going to say. Great news Mr. Flobserver your house is worth more so we're just going to need another 1,000 for this upcoming years property taxes. Same story since i moved in over a decade ago.

I see where disabled vets pay no parish tax.

+36% and Fitzmorris just says his job is to determine FMV ie I screwed you for 26-30% because the mileage reduction "may" be 8-10% max even though average increase is 24%. Parish thieves increase property taxes 14-25% after years of voting against mileage increases and some mileage renewals. Guess the jail, judges and sheriff will get that big revenue increase the public voted against for years.

4 years ago I fought mine. I had bought it in the year prior, and they assessed it 30% higher than I just paid. Insanity. I brought my appraisal and closing docs downtown, and they lowered the amount to the sale price.
Fast forward to this year, and they just did the same thing. It's worth more than it was 4 years ago, but not much.
So I just paid to schedule an actual appraisal. I'll get the appraisal in hand then go march downtown again. I'm going to raise hell while down there.

Did you ask the assessor to kiss you first?

Lot of this going on in EBR.
My thought is that EBR knows shite is about to hit fan with St George getting their money and are trying to screw the whole parish to lessen how it hits BR proper.
