If the state where this person grew up ended up providing any type of financial support for the child, they most certainly can make an attempt at collection. Relationship aside, might not be a bad idea to speak w/ an attorney to understand how it could play out.

This is the way I look at it. Take it as a blessing and hope he wants to meet and develop a relationship. Many couples try and are unsuccessful having kids. You just found out you have another son and grandchildren. That’s a blessing in itself. I hope it works out and y’all become best friends and a part of each other’s lives.

If only there was a legal document that handled succession. Maybe OP decides to include him in his will after getting to know him. Maybe the son doesn’t care or want anything. Never know until you find out. The son and father shouldn’t be punished for the sins of the mother.
