I imagine that some poor sap (or lucky, depending on how you look at this) is going to sleep through this entire thing.

doors in Kodiak, sirens going off. People heading to higher ground. Homer Spit and boat launch being evacuated. Road out of Seward is packed. Line at gas station huge. People headed north to Bear Creek.

Thoughts and prayers for everyone who may be in harms way from this. That being said, it will be interesting to see the upcoming season of Deadliest Catch....I believe they should be in the middle of filming right now?

when I first saw this I was worried it was "the big one" that the PNW is due for but doesn't look like this was it.

Wonder if the increased activity in the pacific ring of fire means that it's coming soon though.

My god, it could be horrible.

Stay safe people

I moved to Europe from Alaska, but my heart is still there. My friends in Anchorage felt the quake but are at no further risk according to what they've been hearing.

I did hear that places like Seward and Homer are evacuating. Sad because those are two of my favorite places.

Hope all is well with you Roger. Keep the updates coming.

Co-worker was at deer camp with fellow Camp members blowing up beaver dams, etc. Around the fire that night, an old member said, “we just about made a giant satsuma blowin up those dams”. Upon questioning, he was just mispronouncing tsunami.

One of my cousins and his family live in Soldotna. Looks like they'll be OK, since there are barrier islands protecting the bay.

Dude, could you imagine how shitty a tsunami in Alaska in January would be? That water would shove your balls all the way up to your chest.
