Yeah that's a monster. Subduction zone along the Aleutian trench is the culprit.

Aside from this tweet, other scientists/meteorologists are worried.

An increase in water levels of 30+ feet in 15 seconds...not good. Hoping it's an error in measurement.

From @BordenMitch in #Kodiak: Tsunami sirens still going off, people out in the streets headed to higher ground because of the M 8.2 #earthquake

NBC News just broke this story at 4:13 AM. Roger the Shrubber has been reporting “ live on TD since 3:42 AM”.

From NOAA's tsunami warning website: "The U.S. Federal Government is currently shutdown. This site will remain available. However, it will not be updated. See www.weather.gov for critical weather information."

So, that's comforting.

8,000 - 9,000 in Both cities. Sounds like Kodiak evacuated to higher ground. They mobilized quickly

This evokes terrible memories of the Japanese tsunami in 2011 and Indonesia in 2004.

frick you, you're still wrong. You linked a page that describes what a tsunami is.

The Tsunami warning center page is up and running (Aside from getting bogged down from all the traffic).
