Ignant gone do what ignant gone does. Most probably saw this as “raise taxes” — NOOO. Without any more thought or consideration at all.
When in reality, they probably would have netted a much lower property tax bill with a yes vote/pass

How much of the replacement uniform cost is tied to the weight gains of the LEO personnel? I see a lot of bellys with straining buttons, but none that need to be altered (taken in) to accomodate lost weight.
With weight gains do they need to upsize their expensive tactical gear?

9 Sheriffs deputies covering a night shift in a county (parish) of 139k is actually quite a bit more than most places in America of that size. About half that would be the norm for a sheriff's dept overnight

Sounds like some salty public relations liaison was counting on a raise

Stop taxing us with hidden bullshite taxes in the form of traffic violations and start actually solving crime and we can talk taxes

10% sales tax is the magic number. Get above that and your treading on thin ice. It's as much psychological as any thing else. The state legislature killed his plan by raising state sales taxes last year and taxing more items. State sales taxes reduce local government's ability to occasionally raise more revenue when they need it.

An easy yes vote for property owners. Shame it didn’t pass.
my property taxes are pretty low to begin with in unincorporated tangipahoa, but I voted yes for that reason. I’m about 5 miles outside Hammond city limits so we depend on TPSO for law enforcement…and thank god we do because Hammond PD is a joke. I also voted for sticker last election. His comment was childish but I get the frustration

something I think needs to change as to how tax proposals are worded and communicated to genpop especially in rural areas. They just splash the legislative legalese on the ballot and expect people who barely got out of high school to understand what they are voting for. It’s a sad commentary on the collective intelligence of this parish and most others, but it has to be addressed

A lot of sheriffs are retired LSP, getting a pension and a salary
Pensions, tons of overtime, good health insurance. Much better than anything in the private sector…which has to pay taxes to fund all that stuff. Voters need to wake up.

This state already has one of the highest effective tax rates in the nation.

Not close to the highest effective tax rates. But we do have the highest sales tax. Higher than California, New York, Connecticut, Oregon. It’s shocking how high our sales taxes are.

Well seeing as law enforcement usually shows up after crimes have been committed, and the vast majority of us are armed for our protection, I think we’ll be fine.

I hate all taxes, but consumption taxes are the least discriminatory and paid by everyone, unlike many other taxes.
