What?

Generating lift is irrelevant to a plane not lifting apparently

Unless there was some severe wind shear going on that we’re not aware of yet. I’m going with either an auto throttle issue and/or they used a de-rated takeoff thrust setting when they shouldn’t have and didn’t have the presence of mind to kick off the automation and just firewall it to power themselves out of the descent into the dirt.

Air carriers need flats/slats extended to create enough lift to takeoff.

You're correct. They had/have a new one on order

Because 11 years is old?

Aren't we still flying planes from the 70s?

I doubt they were replacing it. Also takes years to get a plane after ordering it.

Most older planes today are from the late 90s-mid 2000s (some 76s and 75s are probably from the late 80s)

Very relevant to lift.

That story is fishy about the one guy that survived. Some people are saying he lived in the apartment building that it hit and he claimed to be on the plane.

Looks like he’s trying to get a payday. I feel like it would be pretty easy to check that out, but they all probably have the same name.

Daily mail has a picture of his ticket. He said he woke up, saw bodies got scared and ran out from wherever he landed.

Apparently it doesn't matter if they are extended or not.

From what I was reading the pilot took off from the middle of the runway. That was dumb.

Is it possible he retracted the flaps after take off and that’s what caused the plane to lose lift?

At some takeoff flap settings you would be able to tell if they were deployed or not from the distances and angles we’ve seen so far.

Landed was a nice way of describing that.
