He was awesome. He coached 5th and 6th grade basketball at Ecole too. I’ll never forget him saying “you don’t shoot a lay up, you lay up a lay up”! Great man!

Team Girard here

I was a part of the elite 95/96Mike Miley All Star teams. Felt good about it until we played Girard. I was 12 years old and suddenly was stuck pitching against "kids my age" that had fricking beards and veins in their biceps.

I hope things work out for Bright. They used to have some fire arse sock hops.

Damn thats right, forgot about that.
This thread has been a trip down memory lane, Coach Ray, Big Man, Al Scramuzza.
Would be a real shame to steal Bright from today's JP kids.

My Miley banners say otherwise! Seriously though, Cleary would actually have made more sense to convert to something else and send everyone to Bright but my understanding is that the donation of land fo Cleary to exist prevents the land from being used for anything other than a JPRD park.

Imo, JPRD’s waiver decision and eliminating “districts” for in parish people exacerbated issues. Lakeshore and Girard who already had rather large #s got tons of waivers from Lakeview and Kenner. Then allowing people to make a one time choice of any available JPRD park led to even more movement. The parish could have directed waivers to parks with lower #s but large footprints (Jefferson, Bright, and Delta).

This is what’s crazy to me.

They are shutting down the parks with the biggest spaces/fields and consolidating the larger numbers of kids at the smaller parks.

Cynthia Lee Sheng has a lot of family near Bright.

Their favorite sport is tennis,

The pro who has been bragging about getting this facility for four years is a family friend who has coached many of them.

She was willing to use every lie and trick to get this thing built.

That is why they are lying about and killing Bright as Sheng turns Jefferson into Orleans bit by bit.

What pisses me off is they could update Bright by building more tennis courts / basketball courts, putting a gym, and charging a membership fee to use the gym. But they want to tear it all down to build tennis courts that are controlled by private company.

And the kicker, they want to do it with your tax dollars lol

What?

Other than those shitty apartments in Fat City, Bright is in a very good area in Metairie...

And she’s got a time left to destroy and no care since she can’t run again for parish president.

If they were going to consolidate Cleary and Bright into 1 playground, Bright was the obvious choice and honestly cleary’s footprint probably would be good for tennis complex. My understanding is that JP couldn’t convert Cleary bc of legal reasons related to how the Cleary land was turned over to the parish.

They put together a steering committee that spent months putting together such a plan. Then bypassed them to make this gift for Sheng.

They should be consolidating kids in leagues, but using both parks for games and practices, so that there is enough time and space to accommodate teams with reasonable game and practice schedules.

For example, could combine the following or find what ever combos work:

Delta / Miley
Harahan / Little Farms / Owens
Jefferson / Cleary / Lemon
Girard / Bright
Lakeshore / Pontiff - May have to split these up and combine with another since both parks are already “healthy”

All of the parks are close enough and traveling shouldn’t be an issue for families .

There are more section 8 vouchers going to Fat City and the surrounding area than before she was elected.

This whole deal is BS. Lee Sheng has been setting this up for years and is trying to get this done before her term is over at any cost. Bright has the potential to be an outstanding playground, just if more kids were pushed there. The booster club there does more work to keep the facilities updated than JPRD does. Over the last few years, this park has been set up to fail.

It’ll be interesting to see which politicians didn’t cover their tracks well enough with the bribes. I guarantee that this community is not going lay down on this one. I can see lawsuits and inspector general inquiries coming. JP government is becoming NOLA lite.
