C'mon Al Scramuzza was a good guy. Seafood City, very pretty.

If they enforced the waiver rules and actually made kids play at the park for they are zoned, it wouldn’t be much of an issue.
I think families can pick any Jefferson Parish park to play at, but once they pick it, that is their park, and it seems like everyone tries to pick Pontiff, Girard, or Lakeshore.

There are a number of issues here but it boils down to their being fewer kids in JP and the ones they have, more are playing travel ball (not just baseball but different non-rec sports)
Just like when they have to consolidate schools, eventually they need to consolidate parks.
Also, fond memories of activities on the fields during / after sock hops at Bright

And Gretna isn’t far behind.

that's far from one of the bigger issues that's affecting this. there are no shortage of kids doing rec activities.

Plenty of kids but less than there used to be.
Just like the school system
East bank JP is graying except for for a few areas

How did I (from far away) miss the mention of how much that money making tennis facility will pay up front to the Parish, how much per year, what amounts built in to accommodate inflation (you KNOW their rates will go up as COL increases) and what money will the parish receive in advance to return the park to it's current status if, no when, the tennis facility goes belly up?
Will tennis attract crowds for events? Or will tennis loose to pickle ball in the next decade? To volley ball? Or will bowling become somewhat big, again?

this is more about johnny bright being in a not so great part of metairie and you got the other families fleeing to other parks.
the parks are packed still.

So Bright is struggling…

especially when the parish is undermining the playground
quote:
The Parish’s own waiver policy — which allowed children from Bright’s geographic zone to register at other playgrounds — directly contributed to the participation numbers used to justify this proposal. The Parish redirected our kids, then cited the decline as a reason to take our land.

Bright is in a nicer part of Metairie. The playground never receives any money so they make it look shitty

Bright gets some trash in from Fat City. It's helped sustain some of their programs. They really don't have enough kids to put more than maybe a couple of teams together in each age group. That's not going to cut it. They're basically merged with Cleary now to get them to at least 4 teams in each age group. Cleary's numbers were getting slim, too, so it's helped both parks.
As far as the property, I hate to see it re-purposed but it sounds like it would be better for the parish.

You should go check it out right now. Lot full, cars parked on side of road. Bunch of kids playing baseball.
I think people are upset because this park is going to be turned into private property. It is a park for residents

Also, RIP, Coach Ray!
I played at Girard (against Chicken), however every kid at most Metry playgrounds knew and liked Coach Ray at Bright.

If you played basketball at any of the JPRD Eastbank parks, you likely went to at least one Ray Berni basketball camp at Bright.

I spent years perfecting the crawfish defense that Al Scramuzza preached.
