I think the whole idea of cemeteries and burying the dead to be dumb, outdated, and a waste of resources/land. That said, given the solemn nature they are intended for I would respect that and not use it as a place to get a workout in. Would you have a picnic there?

That's an odd position to take.

Cemeteries are complete wastes of space anyway. It's not like the dead folk are going to give a shite.

As long as you don't take a leak there or have an emergency bowel problem then I think it's ok.

How so? I think the custom of burying the dead is silly, but given the emotional weight people put into it I can still respect that.

They'd be a bit tough, no? Jerky really isn't picnic food. Plus all the digging would be exhausting.

I would take a picnic in this cemetery. It is over a hundred acres so their are large areas that are just trails along the river, little lagoons etc.

Sounds like a great Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.

Running though a cemetery is not disrespectful at all. There are races held in and finish lines located inside of cemeteries all over the country/world.

Now, runners and/or race participants can be disrespectful but the act of running there is perfectly fine.

I know the cemetery you're talking about. It is beautiful. I do think jogging through it would be disrespectful. But I can see the temptation.

Do you think the dead people care?

Picnicking in cemeteries used to be a normal thing back in the day when families took care of their own plots. Some people still do that. Ever heard of All Saints Day?

We go to Bonaventure a few times a year to clean up relative's graves but I've never seen anyone jog there. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Just never seen it. Call and find out. I have seen people run through Colonial and Larual Grove cemeteries but that is because usually someone is chasing them.

It really is a breathtaking place. I will try and post some pictures I took over the weekend. Why do you think it would be disrespectful?

It's just sacred ground. To someone if not you. And just could be a little disrespectful to take it for its physical beauty and incorporate it into your workout while paying no respects to the dead.

I wouldn't prevent you from doing it i just wouldn't want to risk being exploitative.

Not disrespectful. I've been to Bonaventure Cemetery... yes, it's beautiful. So is the really, really big one here in Richmond, Hollywood Cemetery, and jogging seems to be encouraged by management.

I see your point, but life is for the living. As long as there was no loud music, and no service was being conducted, I wouldn't see it as disrespectful.
