A jogger discovered the head at about 7 a.m. on the side of 38th Avenue S west of 31st Street S, according to St. Petersburg police. The head was found in a grassy area between the sidewalk and the southern edge of the road, just west of the Interstate 275 overpass.
The head was too decomposed for investigators to determine the person’s gender or race, said police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez.
“A lot of people might have thought it was just an animal but she perceived it really did look like a human,” Fernandez said.

Homicide detectives were combing the area for more human remains and other clues, Fernandez said. It’s unclear how long the head had been there. The jogger told police the head was not there when she passed by the area on Sunday, but she did not jog through the area on Monday.
Good to see Florida getting ahead of COVID during the summer season.
