Correct! Show some personality! Flat bill, gold chains, Affliction t-shirt and some long shorts that reach to about 3 inches above your Jordon Retro's. Make sure you do not sit during the interview, also. Pacing back and forth giving them one word answers with no eye contact shows your confidence.
They probably won't even let you leave. You'll start working that day.
Oh, and heavy on the cologne also!
Just in case you didn't catch the sarcasm....WEAR A frickING SUIT!

I wore a suit last time and other applicants were in khakis and polo shirts.
At the very minimum, a sport coat, tie, and khakis.

Basically it's an autocad type position where one designs layouts for chemical plants. Been in directional drilling all of my career. Starting over. Probably going to start my own business but someone is pushing for me to interview.

I've been laid off since April. Had an awesome summer in western pa just fishing and riding my arctic cat every day. Now I moved back to avoid winter. Plus I have a 1 year old niece. And as he godfather I want to be here for them

Depends on the firm that you are interviewing with and level of the position. If you are interviewing with a large corporation vs small local firm? Is it industrial vs municipal?
Just dress one level better than the person you are interviewing with. For experienced hires they will be more concerned about your experience, availability, reputation in the industry, salary demand versus what they can bill you for, and do you present yourself in a professional manner.
Unlike many on this board no one gives a shite if you wear a suit to interview for a job when your daily work attire could be jeans and a polo.

We are staying busy for now but Q2 is probably going to get hairy. What you looking to start a company in?

I felt dumb last time being the only one in a suit. But then again I got the position I wanted at the time. 32 and only been on 4 interviews in my life
In PA lots of kids came in jeans and a polo.

Suit.
But DO NOT forget the YETI coffee mug in hand. That way they'll know you mean business.

Depends on where/who the interview is with...if it's with an owner, wear a suit....contractor out at a site, wear khakis and a button down, contractor office, go with a suit
Eta...in all of the above you will be dressed at least one level above the person interviewing you

Dress one level up from the way you would expect your direct supervisor to dress.
Like a said, a nice dress shirt, dress slacks, dress shoes, and maybe a sport coat will cover you 99.9% of the time.

Home inspection business. Been researching for months and it seems pretty solid way to make decent pay. I saved a lot while in the oilfield and not getting married yet. Plus I've gotten to a point where I don't want/crave as much. Plus if I succeed a small business is nice to pass along when I perish
Eta: Been tough to stay in oil since I don't have a 4 year degree. 10 years exp doesn't matter I guess. And I don't use a yeti. I got a Stanley from walmart.

Ignore the suit police in this thread. It's all about the industry that you are trying to gain employment in.
I've hired a lot of folks over the course of my career from the executive level and down. I've never passed on a candidate because they weren't wearing a suit. I have passed on candidates that were wearing suits because they obviously weren't familiar with the culture of our industry.

my current job specifically told me it's a casual interview and to wear what I'd normally wear to work even though it's executive level
khakis and polo most days

Can you elaborate a little. Do you mean because they just weren't qualified?
