Given the context of this thread, I'd say this is beside the point.

Of course they dealt with racism.

Houseelves, giants, centaurs, etc.

All of those were viewed as lesser beings.

An allegory for racism.

Guess what: LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek...Pretty much any fantasy has a lot of racism allegories in them.

And Voldemort being a Nationalist is not a revelation either.

My take on the books was just the opposite. Voldemort reminded me of Obama and the Dems were his dedicated minions. He was making executive orders with his pen (wand) and his phone in order to fundamentally change and rule this country.

Re-read the books.

Cornelius Fudge was the one who turned the ministry into a war-time small totalitarian regime.

Honestly, was not as rare in New Orleans.

Ever hear of creole or mulatto?

It became more rare after the Civil War and very rare in the twentieth century.

But New Orleans high Society used to have what was called "Quadroon Balls" where wealthy whites would meet black and mixed girls and come to an arrangement where the wealthy guy would set her up in an apartment and pay her expenses and sometimes set her up with a business, and she would be his mistress. And kids would often be a result.

Marie Lavou was rumored to be in such an arrangement.

New Orleans was a different place than the rest of America until the early 1900's. Probably 1910's or 20's is when it adopted the rest of the Southern mentality on race and politics.

I don't. Simply stating why I might not know if she released a book last week.

My uncle gave me the books for my niece and when grandma heard flipped out! Never read a Harry Potter book myself but the wizards and magic stuff never interested me.

There's Rowling makes shite up after the fact "I always thought of him as gay"

And then there's just affirming that the guy that was half-mudblood, wants to control the british magical world before expanding into the mundy, and has a fricking cult of personality army complete with uniforms is a Hitler with jetpack.

You dont even need to read the books and only need about 5 minutes from each movie to get that story.

can see the "racist" angle in that case, but calling them "nationalist" makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes it was.

That wasn’t a couple. That was essentially a prostitute.

So essentially a high quality escort. This isn’t a couple, this is closer to a sex slave than a GF

He’s stretching anyways. This was a very wealthy couple in a town with very wealthy black people as well. I’m just not convinced that there was an area that fit that scenario in the south when they were shooting for. I don’t think any of the southern states were legal till the Loving case in the 1960s.

The new Christmas Carol with Guy Pearce had Bob Crachet’s wife as black as well. Britain probably was more accepting at the time, but still.

Again, no issues with it, it’s just not accurate

It’s just a book. Albeit, a good book, but just a book all the same. People really need to stop looking at it beyond its entertainment value. It must be hard living life trying to find political undertones or real world applications to every little thing.

I’m too tired to look it up, but to my recollection, she never said that Hermione was black; she said that she never gave Hermione’s race in the books,
. I think you’re right, as I was too tired also. However, she gave the stamp of approval to a white Hermoine in the movies, thereby establishing the character.

so people freaking out about a black girl being cast to play the role were being petty bigots.

That’s a stretch. I’m sure many huge HP fans like myself were just really attached to Emma Watson as Hermoine.

And also JK was kind of on a diversity induced retcon of her books at that time. She had also decided that Dumbledore was gay and had been all along.

Well no shite.

Mudbloods, House elves, Pure Bloods. It's pretty obvious.

I still love the shite out of these books!

He’s not a nationalist. He’s a racial supremacist dictator. You know. A leftist.
