I can’t speak to today, but I had a drug dealer that lived in the dorms after they were converted to “apartments”. He effectively had an entire floor to himself and it was pretty odd even by druggie standards.

I’m assuming Swaggart made a living on prosperity gospel.

Swaggart was cut more from the traveling evangelist fire and brimstone mode.

Bluebonnet was kind of the sticks at the time. Now we have rappers getting shot right down the street though.

Yep.

I remember when there wasn’t much on Bluebonnet besides Swaggart’s church and a few other buildings. On Saturday nights my family used to go out to eat. One night my parents wanted to try this “new place” near Swaggart’s complex called they’d heard about from their friends called…Subway.

I remember when they were building Bluebonnet. They had it closed off on both ends with barricades. Some people used to move the barricades and drive out there at night to party.

IIRC, before Swaggart bought the land, I think EWE used to own it. There was at one time, a big sign where Perkins Rowe is, saying "Future Home of Schwegmann's". Of course, that never materialized.

I have a weird guilty pleasure of watching Jimmy on whatever channel it comes for 10-15 minutes occasionally. I'm not religious, I'll leave it at that, but there's something hypnotizing about watching these kind of churches and watching the people. I had a little crush on one of the blonde backup singers, Grace I think her name is without looking. I don't know why but televangelists are fascinating to me
