I know the Jefferson Parish school system has been a joke for several years, but their attempts at reform and pandering to the ignorant continue.

Henry Ford and Theodore Roosevelt are out.

Emmet Gilbert and Tom Benson are in.

Tom Benson Rough Riders...?

So, they've always done that.. East End became Marie Riveirie, Metairie Middle became Vernon C Haynes, JC Ellis...

Will Roosevelt, my Middle School Alma Mater be moving to San Antonio now?

Seems like a ploy by JPPSS to get $$$ from Gayle.

Your examples are geographical spots to names. I think geographical locations sound better for names of schools anyway.

No need, demographics of Roosevelt are closer to that of San Antonio already.

Hispanic:44.2%
African American:43.4%
White:10.7%

How are people so quick to forget that he tried to steal the Saints and move them to TX? Guy tried to frick New Orleans at its weakest moment and it took the NFL to stop him.

This. Because of all the turmoil few people will ever know the Saints were literally hours from being in another state. Not to mention the Hornets

I'm wondering if the name-change isn't so much a dig at TR but a re-branding for a school known well-known as the shite-hole of JPSS.

I know several current and former JP teachers who would rather retire or just quit altogether (one did) than be assigned there.

Thomas Jefferson owned slaves. Maybe they should change the name of the parish, too.

You might be right. There are a lot of Roosevelt High Schools around the country. Most are in older neighborhoods that have seen better days. The name has become synonymous with a school on the decline.

Tom Benson sounds like a new school built to accommodate a booming population in a thriving part of a school district.

Oddly enough, there’s already a Roosevelt HS in San Antonio. The mascot is the Rough Riders.
