The Germans and Scandinavian countries standard of living is equal to a better than almost all American states.
They live under the protection umbrella of the United States, and thus can waste their money on frivolous things.

This is just wrong. The vast majority of EU countries have all those things protected in their constitutions.
Yes they do - kind of.
The unspoken difference is that those "freedoms" are given to the people by the government. If government gives it, government can take it away. See Canada.
In the USA, those "freedoms" are inalienable, given to us by our Creator. Government has no authority to take them from us.

You are way way off bro. The Germans and Scandinavian countries standard of living is equal to a better than almost all American states. Their income is less but they have free healthcare, free college education, 4 weeks paid vacation, often free or subsidized housing etc. etc. etc. that along would add more than $75,000 a year to my income right now. Go visit these places and see for yourself, they are significantly happier and feel sorry for us. They they were are all idiots
Clearly you've never traveled to Europe.
Europeans pay 55+% in income taxes plus 20-30% VAT (Value Added Tax) on all consumer goods. Most Europeans live in shoebox sized apartments and the concept of land ownership is foreign (excuse the pun) to them. Private cars are a luxury; most take public transportation to and from work.
Free college? Great, until you find out that you are told if you can go to college in the first place. If you do get in, then you are told what you will study.
A middle class European lives about the same as an American at the defined poverty level and maybe a little worse.

I'll never understand the mindset that we should give more of our money to the government so they can decide how to spend it and how much of it we'll get back

I don't know anything about a speech by Jeff Daniels or who said what, but this is still the greatest god damn country on the face of the earth.
Even with the amount of lil bitches we have living here.

Horse shite!

I’ve spent time in Sweden, the best of the Scandanavian countries, and they are poor compared to us. I can’t find a VRBO that I want to stay in; it’s like staying in a dorm room. I got one that was up to American standards. The other ones had beds that was a thin mattress on wood. The furniture is cheap IKEA shite. They don’t live like Americans, brothers, not even close.
It’s like that all over Europe, and I’ve been to a lot of places there. Charming countries, but you will live a much narrower, less affluent life in ALL of them. And BTW, their health care sucks. You can’t pick your doctor; you get whatever unmotivated flunky they assign to you. You have to wait months for procedures that in America you would never tolerate that for. Our health care sucks, but it’s better than theirs, unless you are a deadbeat, in which case theirs rules!

frick outta here. VAT and 55-60% income tax in a homogeneous population is free and better than the USA? Scandinavian food sucks.

Aaron Sorkin wouldn't know a good country if it was quickly but sarcastically spoke in front of him and was borderline humorous every fifteen minutes.

Wrong
Either you've never been to Europe or you're consciously lying. The norm for the European middle class is multiple generations living in 6-800 sq ft house/apt. They are awed by our standard of living.
