Jeep Wrangler is first vehicle to tip over in small overlap crash test -- twice

IIHS released its findings following its standard barrage of crash tests on Thursday, and the driver-side small overlap front crash test resulted in the Wrangler actually tipping over not once, but twice. The SUV strikes the barrier at 40 mph and simply turns over on its side before coming to a halt at the barriers. It's not a pretty sight.
After IIHS ran its first test, which ended with the SUV tipping over, FCA questioned the results, according to the safety watchdog. The automaker said the results were perhaps skewed due to the way the watchdog hooked up the crash propulsion system rig. The IIHS agreed to retest the Wrangler with a different method that received FCA's approval, but the Wrangler again tipped on its side.

Pretty obvious from the slow-mo that the impact dislodges the tire which gives an upward force to the left side, and that's all she wrote.
Seriously, the tipping over is probably the least dangerous aspect of that particular crash.
It's a Wrangler, it goes with the territory.

A result like that ruined the Suzuki Samurai that rolled over too easily back in the 80s and Consumer Reports announced it after their tests

I was driving a Nissan rouge a few years ago. I had a similar accident. A car tried to merge from the turn lane In front of me. Just clipped their bumper. I went up and over. Rolled that thing 3 times. Was on going 35 mph.

Aren't Jeeps notorious for flipping? I've heard this as far back as I can remember.

Yep. Watching that video I'd say that a person would be less likely to be injured in that versus the typical almost instant stop they get in those tests.
That's nothing like the infamous Samurai that would roll over in a parking lot.

Lifted ones yes. But stock they are pretty low to the ground as far as SUVs go if you ask me.
For example the 5th gen 4Runners seem way more top heavy to me.
