Metal shards all in it. Very little, off reading. I have no clue why it went bad. I just think it's a normal thing with a keep. I bought both mine new. So I know it wasn't someone else messing with it before I bought it.

That's why the saying is Jeeps are built, not bought.

I own two Jeeps (not daily drivers), but I work on them myself. I had to replace the rear transmission output shaft seal and oil pressure sending unit over the weekend. She didn't leave me stranded, she was just leaving marks everywhere I went. It's a labor of love though, as there aren't many rugged vehicles with similar capabilities. I will say, I have never had a major engine issue (4.0L and 5.2L).

I didn't go through the thread, but were you towing with it? I change my differential fluid in my rear ends every 20k. It's cheap insurance, especially if you're exposing it to high heat applications. Also, did you notice any leaks? It sounds like you were either low on fluid or the oil had broken down.

If it's not leaking, she is out of oil.

Two things Dodge is known for bad transmissions and bad rear ends.

The transmissions are fickle to servicing. That's the problem though, most people don't. They change their engine oil and go about their business. I have yet to have a Jeep transmission or rear end fail (did have axle shaft snap, but that was due to tire size). Also, I always search out Jeeps with a Dana 44 - always look for ones with factory towing packages.

I don't think most of these "Jeep" owners know the difference!

My AMC Jeep has taken some serious punishment and occasional periods of neglect in its 34 years!
I've done lots of work to repair and replace many parts, but it still absorbs all the abuse I can dish out.

Does that mean I would buy a Chrysler?

HELL NO!

Insurance used to be slightly higher for both 2WD and 4WD vehicles.

I second this. My Ram 1500 is an electrical mess right now.

Sorry to derail convo... but I've always found chevy motors to be great, but everything else on the vehicle has to be fixed.

What all have you put back into yours?

Sorry for the delay on the reply. Actually nothing major. Minor transmission problems twice, but I've been very very lucky.
