Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with questioning things rather heavily. What's the point of questioning things at all if one doesn't do it to the full extent necessary to quell one's concerns?
And what I'm noting in your post is that the person the selfish 17 year old gave to in this instance, assuming that person had been vaccinated, the vaccinated person is still on the hook to get the virus despite the vaccination? And if that person's on the hook to catch covid regardless of vax status, then so is the 17 year old if he or she is vaccinated as well. Seems to me that if you came into contact with the virus and contracted the illness, then you were gonna catch it whether vax'd or not.
And I'm not simply out of hand dismissing the vaccine, but I do think these are valid questions.

I'm for a vaccine mandate if and when there is a clear and imminent danger. COVID is in no way shape or form a clear danger for kids. We both know that and so do most rational people out there.
If they would go about approving this the right way, with long lasting studies and trials, people would have a lot more confidence in it. Cramming it down peoples' throats does more harm than good.

What's least intrusive? Business bureaucracy mandating injections to continue to work there for a virus with a 99.9% survivability rate? Or a Governor telling these bureaucracies they are infringing on people's rights by making these requirements?
I find it funny, that you are now looking for any conceivable way to bash those that are against mandates. I think mandates of all sorts are intrusive. I have no problem with government telling businesses you can't discriminate. I guess you're ok with this sort of discrimination, right?

Why isn't it selfish for the person who is scared of the virus to try and make everyone else around them get the vaccine or live how THEY think those people should be living just so they can walk around without a worry in the world.

Often, some of the same people are berating you with, "get the vaccine, you won't die of covid if you just get the vaccine, why won't you get the vaccine". And to them, you ask them 2 questions:
1) Well if that's the case, if you're vaccinated, you shouldn't care if i'm not.
2) I wasn't going to die of covid anyway, 99.9% surivability, so why?

Uhm... what?
Explain how showing the dangers of rushing drug approval and thus considering rushed drugs (especially when rushed this quickly) to be experimental and wanting to wait until enough time has passed to glean long-term effects is both stupid and selfish.
