Shutting one city down now won’t do anything other than anger people and incite panic.

why do you think it matters if it's only Nola or not?
You think that they're going to be cool with it as long as it applies to everywhere else? Or will they riot b/c of the action itself?

Go ahead and keep making emotional charged decisions based on what YOU think is going on. You are saying there is an overreaction. Can you prove that there is? And if it is an overreaction, isn't it better than no reaction?
What if.. 40-50 years ago the auto industry would have said "A lot of people who use our product are dying when they get in a wreck, but we are not going to make vehicles safer because it will cost us more which will make our product more expensive. Plus, anyone who gets in a wreck can't drive well anyway so why do we need to take action and change our product?".. And because of that, there would be no seatbelts, no airbags, people would not worry about putting their kid in a car seat, etc, etc
And before someone says "you comparing the coronavirus to vehicle safety and people dying in wrecks?". No, it was an example. If nothing was done to make vehicles safe, as the population grows and there are more people on the streets, they would be more wrecks which would increase the amount of people killed in wrecks.
But instead, they continue to come up with safety features that will prevent more people from getting into serious vehicle accidents.
What IF the government did nothing and this thing got stronger and then all of a sudden not just the older people start dying? Middle aged people, teenagers, kids start dying because they caught it.. Then what? Everyone will be enraged because the government knew about it and did absolutely nothing.
Or maybe they should just read the OT and base their actions on Oilfieldbiology's opinion.

If you're worried about catching it why the frick not just self quarantine.
Then it doesn't matter what the hell anyone else does.
And if it turns out to be the end of the world like most of you lemmings are predicting you get a front row seat to watching the apocalypse and say "I told you so"
Ain't no fricking way anyone short of Jesus Christ is going to make millions of people stay in their houses for weeks or months. Period

Did those safety measures in your long winded hypothetical, which in this case have not proven to actually be effective in stopping the problem, tank the economy and business of people who don’t drive?
Did it put millions of people in financial peril?
Like I said in another post, more people will be bankrupted/fired from this than people who need to go to the hospital, much less die
In what world have you seen this? It’s ok every inhabited continent and we don’t see this. Go ahead and make up fear fantasies in your head but in the real life peoples jobs are being directly halted/prohibited by the government.
And I’m not saying everyone should share my opinion, but people should make decisions based on emotions and fear.

JBE didnt say that..not sure why the OP put that in his title......those words were written by an Advocate writer

These are JBE's words...
quote:
also said that while the state is not there yet,
quote:
he could order some cities to shelter in place,
quote:
a drastic step
quote:
“Hopefully it will not be necessary,”
quote:
“It may be necessary to do that in certain localities.”

quote:I'm saying that it would be less disruptive to the economy and supply chain to have a total 2 week shutdown nationwide then it would be to have rolling shutdowns in various hotspots
or else we will end up locking down a new place every few days once tests get done. the flow of goods would be way too disrupted if its a new place being locked down every week
that's a major issue with our strategy, Nola or no Nola

God forbid they may cough without knowing exactly why they are doing this!?!?!

People quite literally fought and died in order to be able to tell and over reaching and disconnected government “Don’t tell me what to do”

You mean like thinking everyone will go bankrupted and the economy will crumble because of a temporary shut down? I am not at that panic level yet.
