I also think that he will extend it.
I hope he isn't surprised when we all tell him and go on about our lives.
The end of April is all the economy can take and I'm not sure if the local economy here isn't already screwed for quite a while.

So there’s a literal global pandemic killing people and all the Louisiana “baws” on this site want to revolt based on what the governor “might” do or not do, which will be the same as what the rest of the country does.

Funny thing is, none of them will do a damn thing. Instead they’ll continue sitting behind a keyboard spouting off empty threats

It's amazing how quickly they went from "Flaten the Curve" to "We must prevent people from getting sick!"

Once they got a taste of forcing people to do things, they can't stop.

I expect TN to partially open back up May 1st. Obviously not things like schools, festivals, concerts, sporting events, but other businesses that aren't as assembly based.

Yeah, we have lost sight on what the original goal was. Of course there is going to be a second spike when we open things up. As long as that spike stays under the “healthcare capacity” level, it is no excuse to keep people out of work.

In one of Trump's intial briefings when then started going downhill, he mentioned these measures could go till August. Not sure why anyone is surprised by any of this....

Everybody has a limit. This shutdown can’t last forever, because there is a tipping point where people will do what they have to do en masse to get things back to normal.

Because they have stopped going down hill, no hospitals are in danger of being over run, and this entire thing has shown to be a big nothing burger for the majority of metro areas and vast majority of rural areas.

yeah the original spike was nowhere near as bad as was predicted in terms of hospital capacity, so the logical thing is to...keep everyone inside for longer? as YA asked in a thread yesterday: what, exactly, is the signal that it's OK to open things up again?

vaccines are a dream

testing for antibodies is not ready and will not be up to scale for months. even then, we're not eliminating people getting sick...we're just *gasp* ensuring hospitals don't get overrun

Not an Edwards supporter, but I don't see where he's doing anything different than most.

Flattening the curve doesn't mean as soon as the wave tops you take away the measures that allowed for that. The measures are to remain in place all the way on the ride of the downside.

His, and all governors' choices at this time are keep it closed and continue serious economic damage or open things up and see the infections rise again. There is no win in this situation.

I work for a hospital, the biggest one in the region, and we have never come close to capacity for the coronavirus. We even stopped staffing the covid-19 triage tent, although it's still up in case we get a later spike. And if there is a spike later on, even a bigger one, we are fully capable of handling it.

Right. Very few of us want anything to do with a revolution or even any kind of civil protest.
But if they continue this, a whole lot of people are going to break.

The government is unilaterally destroying our way of life if they continue this. They are sowing the wind, so to speak.

And wasn’t that the point of the orders? Ensure we don’t slam the hospitals and end up like
Italy?

I’m glad to hear your hospital is prepared for this

Hospitals never came close to overwhelmed

That is what they sold the public on for lockdowns

Yes, exactly that. "Flatten" the curve... which we seem to have done successfully.

Luckily in an area that just hasn't been hit hard. I live in a metro area about the same size as BR and our county has 4 deaths and less than 200 cases.

Directly causing an economic meltdown (in addition to preventing family gatherings, social life, Church, etc) is much much worse than the alternative.
