Alaska tsunami at 1700 feet- over a quarter mile high
1958 in Alaska

quote:

Two other boats also were anchored in the bay that night; those four people managed to ride out the wave. Two were rescued from a dinghy after their boat sank, the others managed to pilot out of the bay on their own power

I’ll never forget that night. I was awakened from a dead sleep in my big rig with a feeling like someone was twisting a pitchfork in my side. Long story short, I watched tsunami coverage from an ER three states from home after EMS pulled me from my truck. My first experience with kidney stones. I felt their pain (kind of).

Over 250,000 died in that one. It was way way worse.

One of the images that stuck with me is that there was a wave, of unknown height, just ripping across some farmland.

The thing was, the images from the helicopter, were so crystal clear it looked like an over produced six do scene.

The only other instance where it looked so fake was the destruction of the federal building in Oklahoma City. Each time I was learning of the event during the live coverage.

Katrina wiped all my company's customers in NOLA forcing the company to close the office in BR and I was then transferred to Houston.

I switched jobs 2 years later and the the 2011 Tsunami wiped out a microchip plant in Fukushima that supplied all the chips we needed for machines in the US which led to me being laid and then I moved back to Louisiana.
