BATON ROUGE- East Baton Rouge Parish is on track to have the deadliest January on record in 2021 with 10 days left to go this month.

The deadly January comes after a violent 2020 where Baton Rouge broke records for the most murders ever. As of January 21, the new year was not off to a good start; Already, there have been 12 homicides in the parish as of Thursday. The only other time there were this many homicides was in January of 2013. There were 12 for the entire month in 2013, making this month tied with the deadliest.
quote:

"This is very alarming," East Baton Rouge Coroner Dr. Beau Clark said. "We are just coming off the year 2020 where EBR Parish saw an overwhelming number of deaths, one of those being homicides. And here we are in the first 21 days of January of 2021, and we've already had 12 homicides to date this month."
The coroner tracks all homicides, including those that are justified. The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office only tracks murders. To date, the DA's office said Baton Rouge is matching the 2013 number of 10 murders, with a few days to go until the end of January. The murders have run the gamut from people shot and killed in the street to a 13-year-old found dead five days ago on Beechwood.
quote:

We are going to continue our directive patrol efforts, areas where we are seeing increased activities and areas of concern," Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul said.
Glad to see your Mayor President and Chief are on top of this.. elections have consequences

Love to see this kind of hair splitting by the local authorities.

“Yeah, there were 12 homicides but the last two happened to be drug dealers so they worked out luckily.”

They should separate North BR stats from the rest and see what shakes out.

Ghettos gonna ghetto, which means "shoot each other instead of anything productive"

10 murders plus a mean girl at Parkview. This is not the Baton Rouge I grew up in. Glad the national media is on the case. Thanks Ryan Clark.

Almost, if not all, all black on black. But the police are the bad guys.

The crazy part is that January and winter months in general average less homicides than the summer months. It was cold outside the last part of December and first half of January. Generally translates to less people on the street or out and about at night. This is an alarming number of murders for January. Could easily translate to shatter the record set last year.

Need more clean up campaigns.

I have an idea. Cops aren't allowed to do their job. Maybe they can start picking up trash in the hoods.

I love that a Vol alum that lives in Atlanta brings this up.

TD for the win.

Honestly, I hope it does. I don't like people dying under any circumstances, but if this is what it takes for actual change, then so be it.

And I mean "change" in that the people who live there realize getting murdered isn't a career choice and maybe a GED would help.

I’ve concluded that people who voted for Mayor Broome are those who enjoy the misery of others, as they themselves can only feel such.

And whoever paid Piazza and Carter to run should be jailed and fined. The mission should have been to oust SWB and sixty-twelve Republicans and the E Guarantee run and split votes.

The mayor needs another press conference telling us how tough she is on crime.
