You want to mourn those that lost, but today there is a big event and they are trying to encourage people to get out and let them know they are safe. Probably shouldn’t have said “have fun” in that way. Coulda reassured people without sounding like you have no compassion
I know that the chances are very slim that anything will happen at the Sugar Bowl after this. I’m sure the security plan has already been ramped up to the next level after this happened, and likely it is only related to the Sugar Bowl in terms of it being NYE/Day and crowded. But I would definitely think twice about going tonight if I had tickets.

Is that a jacket over the flag?

NOPD and state police have a large presence in the quarter now, and it’s honestly become pretty well policed.
Landry and co have made a concerted effort to make the quarter a safe space. Unfortunately, hard to plan for a terror attack.
Will be interesting to see what measures are put in place ahead of Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, etc.
Of all the idiocy Jeff Landry has introduced to the world, his Troop NOLA initiative has been a massive success. I was in the FQ in New Orleans a few weeks ago for a wedding and it was very apparent that most of the shady characters were gone. It was very nice to see firsthand.

Read on reddit that it was an ISIS flag

Why? Nashville has host the draft on the street at Broadway after their domestic terrorist attack a few years back.
Are you really comparing Broadway to the FQ? My statement isn't based on this one incident. It's based on the overall level of extreme lawlessness.

What word would you prefer people use?

Kirkpatrick says it appears majority of injured / killed are locals.
300 officers in area lastnight between different organizations.
All NOPD officers have been called in today. Multiple parishes across the state offering officers as assistance if needed.

Yep. The police covered the flag

Or maybe this isn't the appropriate time for that distinction? Is your fedora on too tight this morning?

No, it wasn’t terrorism. It was a drunk Mexican probably from the valley
Do drunks normally fire guns into crowds when they mow them down?

Just a guess, but looks like an ISIS flag that they wrapped up and tied to hide it from the public

Everybody is jumping to conspiracy but you don't want to give attention to the flag
Posted on 1/1/25 at 7:21 am to Boss13
Unless they covered the flag before they cuffed him the flag was never out. The videos at the scene have rhe cops on the guy and that ball or whatever already in place.
