As someone not as familiar with the French Quarter as many here
has there been a map of where the specific attack took place and where the bombs were located
TIA

if I am blasted on Bourbon St. and idk what an IED looks like, hand to god, I'm going to assume it's a really high tech Ice Chest. There's absolutely 0% chance I'm gonna sober up and go "Hmmm, maybe I should think twice about this"
I was out there Friday night and was more plastered than I've been in the last 20 years. I do remember seeing an ice chest alone somewhere along the street but passed it up. Have no idea where it was but I saw one and thought it was odd that nobody was near it but I was so out of it that I didn't care. I can see how others would've touched it looking for a free drink and kept going when it didn't contain drinks and can totally see how they would've not known what the hell wires or whatever else it contained was for and just saying "frick it" then keep walking.

Someone yesterday said FBI HRT was aboard JENA1 en route to MSY, not sure of the validity of that. They may be just moving additional agents down, not necessarily HRT.

The bollards wouldn't have stopped him. He went on the curb around the police care that was blocking the entire street. He could have gone the length of bourbon even if they were installed. the bollards only block the street. The sidewalks are pretty wide on bourbon.
Yea but even so, as he’s barreling 3 blocks down the street odds are the portable ones would’ve helped stop him along the way

They're now saying 14 dead so I guess if there's any positive news, it's not 15. Perhaps they were initially counting the terrorist?

FBI stated 14 + dead terrorist at presser

Yes, the original 15 number apparently included the terrorist, but that shitbag shouldn’t count.

Right, frick him. I hope he's wrapped in bacon and thrown into the river at Jackson Square.

So many people in this thread and on the news speaking in definites of what could and should be done that are unfamiliar with the complexities of the quarter.
Change will come from this. Monday morning quarterbacking is always easy to do in these situations, but a terrorist is going to commit atrocities one way or another. Society has to learn to mitigate risk, not eliminate it entirely.

If I were to create IEDs and place them in ice chests and leave them and not want them to be detected/reported here’s what I would do. Build the device and place it in the bottom of the cooler. Cover the device with something plastic and white (assuming the cooler interior is white - inverted tray or even a garbage bag draped on top. Add ice over the plastic. Done. Anyone looking will see an ice chest with ice but no drinks and be likely to move on.

I agree, but I think that’s a point most are trying to make. Plenty of old historical cities or tourist attractions have done similar things. And yes hindsight is 20/20, but this is human nature. On the battlefield or otherwise we debrief and determine what we can do better with in the future.
We will never prevent terror acts

3am on Bourbon in a crowd you aren't hearing a regular vehicle accelerate at you either.
Obviously, from the videos posted, people heard the car and or the collisions and started to try and get out of the way.

Do we know WHEN the bombs were planted? Was it on NYE or before?

You think?
