JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV)- Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has signed an executive order temporarily suspending open carry for Jackson residents in an effort to lessen the occurence of violent crimes during the COVID-19 civil emergency.
The result of Lumumba’s decision comes after an 11-year-old and a 5-year old were killed one week apart due to gun violence in the city.
In a video released Friday, Mayor Lumumba called for a repeal of Mississippi’s Open Carry Law, citing that the law prevents community members from feeling safe and interferes with law enforcement’s ability to remove illegal guns.

The open carry law not only provides protection to individuals who are armed with illegal weapons, it creates an atmosphere of fear and intimidation in the community. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the fact that the open carry law has led an increase in gun violence into our communities.“

Obviously it was the open carry people who killed the children.
I’m sure the criminals went and put their guns up after he issued the order.

We use to stay in Jackson on the way to Alabama but the last time you could tell something was severely wrong, it was like a dark cloud covered the city and anyone decent wasn't in sight. Downtown looked like a ghost town. When you cave to Democrats this is what happens. Their a cancer to society and need removed.

Does Mississippi not have it written in their state constitution that it can't be suspended during a state of emergency?
If not that's odd. We have provisions in the Kentucky state constitution that keeps the Governor from even closing gun and ammo shops during a state of emergency.

All you need to know right here.
Chokwe Antar Lumumba (born March 29, 1983) is an American attorney, activist, politician and the current Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi. While running for mayor, Lumumba soundly won the Democratic nomination, defeating incumbent mayor Tony Yarber and John Horhn, a state senator. As Jackson is a heavily Democratic leaning city, Lumumba's primary victory was likely to make him the next mayor of Jackson. Lumumba was endorsed by Our Revolution and the Working Families Party and ran on a progressive platform promising to make Jackson "the most radical city on the planet." He is the son of former mayor Chokwe Lumumba, who served briefly before his death in 2014. Lumumba has two children with his wife, Ebony.

Where those two shootings carried out by outstanding law-abiding citizens?
I suspect the criminals in that city have their own open carry law.

This is calculated.
He knows this will get struck down. But when it does, he can turn to his voters and go "see, I tried to help our community but the racist white people in this state struck down my attempt!"

The state Attorney General has told him it's not legal

I’m sure some fine upstanding citizen was open carrying his legal firearm before randomly shooting that 11 and 5 year old.
