courir

this is always the way we celebrated mardi gras.

are the parades typically just like a Christmas parade? sit in your lawn chair and catch beads?

I'm usually chasing chickens instead of beads.

I much rather the Courir Mardi Gras. I went to church point yesterday and it was slamming. Lots of trashy people but still a good time.

If it’s not raining tonight I know back in the day Mamou had the best street party on Monday night. So many people packed in that little shithole.

Is there anything else that can be done at a parade?

For a lot of people, the parades are just part of it. I said this the other day, but its like LSU football for some people. LSU home games give people a reason to get together with friends & family to eat, drink and have a good time.

For some people it is about going see the designs of the floats, etc, etc.. The parades are art.. Everyone has their own interpretation of what they are.

I’m 41 and went to my first parades in New Orleans this weekend. I grew up in Acadia Parish and only really knew of the Tee Mamou Mardi Gras.

My kids enjoyed all the junk they caught, but I wasn’t too impressed

If Christmas parades have people being crushed under wheels, falling off balconies, and getting assaulted by baws.

This is generally what it's about for me and everyone I know. We have house parties, eat a bunch of food, and the kids try to catch as much junk as possible.

You see friends and neighbors that you don't see often out on the parade route and it's a chance to catch up.

Tomorrow on Bonnabel, we will have the neighbors set up on one side of us, friends on the other side. Behind us will be another group of long time friends that will have 30 or so people that we all know.

After the parade, while waiting for traffic to clear, we will all head to a house for some gumbo and jambalaya.

I’ve never been to big ones or to New Orleans and I don’t have any regrets. I’m not a big crowd guy and honestly don’t get the allure of trying to catch beads as an adult.

Last parade I went to was in high school in New Roads. Never saw the parade tho. Was busy with others crowded around a car parked at the public ramp watching a buddy of mine plow some random chick in the back seat.

This.

It's like Christmas but with more booze and extended family. Very family oriented, at least on Mardi Gras day.

I don't care how much of a tough guy Baw you are, if you don't get a little electricity when you hear the first beats coming down from that marching band, you got no soul.

That said- Wouldnt go if I didnt have a family party near the parade route.
