is Trump’s policy going to be in the murder category? because I can agree with that.

There’s a time and a place. Not so sure the time is in immediate response to someone saying they are losing their job through no fault of their own. Clearly you feel differently. Guess you and your family have never lost a job.

Who would have ever thought that pausing virtually all aspects of society might have some significant consequences for millions and millions of people.

But look on the bright side. Now you can cower under your blanket at home and avoid that 1% chance of death while you enjoy trying to figure out how to make a living for you and your family

The alumina market has been on shaky ground for a better part of 2 decades. Any hiccup and this is what you get. I imagine Noranda isn’t far behind.

Does a furlough mean that you are not fired, you do not get paid, but you keep your benefits?

When do you think this will be over?

Another month or so I'd think? Kind of looking at China and other places although we can't really believe anything they've reported.

That's exactly what it means. They only put myself and one other person who was transferring international on furlough. It keeps the transfer option available to us. Everyone else is simply given severance and let go. Those people are not eligible for rehire for 1 year. If myself and the other gentleman cannot be transferred in 3 months we get our severance and will be released.

I work at the old Ormet in Burnside. Corona has plummeted alumina prices to the point that cost to produce is now outweighing the profit. Plus our main customer has severely cut orders.

My dad was in the aluminum business and I remember how the price fluctuation would worry him. He was thoroughly against recycling.

You'll weather the storm, one way or another. Keep your head screwed on straight and better days are ahead.

Noranda is hiring from what I hear so that’s where I’ll look in the short term.

Not sure. This new company that took over has been trying to cut costs at every turn. They could just be taking advantage of the virus to try and re-open with a reduced workforce. Either way, no bueno for me. I knew this industry was shaky when I took the job, but I needed to do it to progress in this career. I’m in a hiring pool for Total Petrochemical and I’ve just been awaiting a call, but I imagine they’re in a hiring freeze at this point. Going to just have to find something to fill the gap in the meantime. Fortunately my wife still has her job.
