I don’t even think kids should play organized sports until they develop some skills…that’s what dad’s are for. Go play with your kid until they’re ready to pay attention and compete.

they must be from the poor and under league, we all have ice machines at our houses, right near the lighted batting cages

How miserable some ppl must be have such strong feelings about something so simple as kids playing baseball.
That’s the problem, kid’s playing baseball is no longer “simple”, the travel ball craze has turned what used to be simple into something complex and expensive. I think that’s where the majority of the hate comes from.

You think this is bad? Just look at senior league pickleball

its really not complicated
1) play rec
2) if your kid loves the game and you are willing to play more...find a team that is in line with your commitment level, time and financial wise
3) play rec
everyone bitching on here and other that 777tiger its all people who dont have kids in it. Its all bitching about what other do that has zero effect on them
what it really comes down to..is they dont want to commit the time and financial resources to it...but they dont want their kid left behind either. So they come on here and bitch about the system and about how its not fair.
bottom line is you can do travel for a little or a lot, that is up to you. but the cost of gloves, bats etc is not going down. neither is the cost of field rentals, umpires etc etc. its an expensive sport to play and for the most part always has been. dont like it and want your kid to play....get a better job.

I have a kid who is 7.5 but already 5 foot tall who is playing up on his organization’s 8u team and is bigger than any kid who plays in that division and he is young enough to guest play on their 7u team.
He played in both ages last weekend and the other team’s parents in the 7u group were yelling about birth certificates the whole game after he ripped one to the fence in his first at bat

sure
and even if true...you cant play for 2 teams in same tournament even if different ages.

explain how my decision to pull my kids out of rec has any effect on you other than its one less kid for your kid to play against.
Posted on 2/18/25 at 10:56 am to lsu777
It was their organization’s fundraiser. Not sanctioned.
Why would I make that up?
Why would I make that up?

If you don’t understand this, there’s no explaining it to you. Which I already knew. You’re are not a smart person

Ok then. It definitely happened and he had a blast doing it.

That’s the problem
While I agree with you on the expensive aspect, how is it a “problem” when travel ball is optional? There is nothing wrong with kids that play only rec ball. If they choose to join a travel ball type team then who cares is my point lol. Why would someone care what other ppl do and how much they pay for it

How this is such a difficult concept for some of you is fascinating

Objectively false.
You’ve clearly never seen The Sandlot and should be ashamed of yourself.

just because i may not agree with you on things doesnt make me "not a smart person"
im actually pretty damn bright and understand every point you are trying to make. I may not agree but that doesnt make me "not smart" by any means. I would put both my book smarts, iq, and certainly street smarts against anyone but especially yours
in the end your bitch is it makes rec leagues weaker and you dont feel like it helps long term results...I disagree and have been on both sides. Its not like i have had only kids playing travel and have never been involved or had kids play rec. I coached rec for 8 years....you realize that and this is my 5th year with a kid in travel.
you do understand i have experience on both sides right? You think with as obsessive my personality is...maybe just maybe I learned a thing or two?
as far as your argument...fine but here is a counter argument
1) with the different divisions and rec it allows kids to play to the level of their competition. If a kid is really really good, they can play against other majors kids. If they are good not great, they can play aaa, if they need accelerated development that rec cant provide...they can play aa
if they need playing time at other positions, just starting out etc...they can play rec
2) the better kids not playing rec allows kids to play infield that would never get that chance in years past. Kids get way more playing time and in more positions than they would if the travel kids came back. Rec kids are not as overwhelmed with the competition level and grow to like the game which may carry on even after they stop playing.
so before you run your mouth and call people dumb...realize you may not see the whole picture because you dont have the experience in these things on both sides like some do.
quite frankly it would be dangerous for some of the travel kids to play rec because there is such a contrast in abilities, especially at younger ages. And like normal public school setting, you can only develop as fast as the worst kids and the worst kids hold everyone else back. You also have to be around kids that dont care and are only there because mommy and daddy want them to be.
same mommy and daddy whine and want their kid to pitch, play 1st etc yet their kid cant throw or catch
but im sure you understand all this and you know everything and your way is better even though you have zero experience on either side as an adult. so do us all a favor when it comes time for your kid to play....enroll them in the local little league and shut the frick up and come HS you can tell us all how dumb we were to waste money on travel when your kid is blowing the doors off of everyone else at tryouts
or I could just enjoy supporting my children in their passions, provide amazing experiences for them and just love them no matter what they chose to do......all while not giving one thought to...hey those damn rec kids and parents are ruining everything.
