It’s the same in Austin. I was issued an N - 95 yesterday with the understanding that they would keep it and give it back when I needed it . A couple weeks ago they had the standard mask at all the entrances, elevators and just throughout the hospital with signs telling the public to disinfect their hands and wear a mask if they had flu-like symptoms. People took all of it .
The hospital couldn’t have foreseen needing that many N-95 mask . They are expensive and would have gone to waste.

NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans nurse on the front lines of the COVID-19 health crisis is describing what he and his coworkers are battling.

WDSU is not identifying the nurse or the hospital where he is employed.

He said they are given protective gear and have to reuse it over and over again. “We are repeatedly reusing gear and equipment that we are not supposed to. As we use this equipment more and more it fails and people are getting sick. Honestly, as health care we weren’t prepared for this. We saw it coming. We didn’t have action plans that were suitable until the time came, now we are being more reactive than proactive we have to change that," he said. "It’s terrifying from the health care worker standpoint.

A lot of nurses I know are daily breaking down emotionally they are crying they are terrified." He said the situation is getting dangerous and worse daily.

Ok, I'll try and dissect this shite a little bit for you. Here goes.

The only "protective gear" nurses are being asked to reuse are masks and that's as a means to conserve, not because hospitals are out of them.

Using the words "gear and equipment" implies nurses are being asked to reuse something more than a mask and that's a drama driven mischaracterization. It's not ideal that you have to reuse a mask but it's sure as shite not a crisis either, in fact far from it.

You know what you're supposed to do if your mask breaks or tears? Go get another fricking mask. That's it, that's all. Furthermore, nurses in the GNO are not on a "one mask limit". They're simply being asked to conserve and try not to use more than one.

Now this drama mama goes on to babble about equipment failures and people getting sick from it. Remember what we're talking about here. We're talking about a mask. A mask that if you break it during the course of your shift. You simply replace it. That's what you do. There's not one goddamn nurse in this city, not one that will take care of a respiratory patient without a mask.

This guy says this. "It’s terrifying from the health care worker standpoint."

I don't have exact numbers of healthcare worker infections. I know Ochsner recently put out some corporate wide numbers but where I work (A prominent GNO hospital) we've had two ED staff test positive since all this shite started. I don't know anyone who's "terrified". Concerned? Yes. Terrified? frick no.

Fragile Frankie leaves us with this little nugget.
"He said the situation is getting dangerous and worse daily."

Hospitals all across the GNO are close to half their average census and ED's are seeing almost half the traffic. People aren't standing in line to get into a GNO hospital right now. In fact, do you have a stubbed toe? Head over to your local ED. No lines, no wait.

Don't be bamboozled by this bullshite. The fundamental problem is this. People like this frickin guy are turning a situation into a crisis when at this moment, it really isn't. Well when or if this does become a crisis, the fragile frankie's of the world have prematurely blown their crisis wad. If you turn everything into a crisis now, no one will listen to you when the real crisis actually arrives.

The pentagon...5 million respirator masks.

Of more interest is why did Facebook have 720,000 masks and Apple 5 million masks?

Yep. I have a friend that runs the inventory department of a large hospital system. Admin wanted them to cut costs so the only solution was a just in time inventory process. Works great with the available technology under day to day processes where they know the schedule and there aren’t supply chain issues.

A town of 10k near me built new hospital about 10 years ago.

The entry with it's water feature and fountain would not be out of place in the Waldorf.

Hospitals have slim margins my arse.

I could understand Apple with small electrical components, but FB?

Still seem like an oddly large inventory for either group. But kudos to them for their philanthropy.
