Surprise, the idiots will receive a pay increase and the hard workers will see a pay reduction and less incentive to work hard. Now all your workers will be lazy idiots. So much for my 2 day shipping

Beyond the obvious PR stunt, Amazon may find themselves at the intersection of psychology and economics. Those who frequently received these productivity/incentive bonuses are the biggest losers here, and they are also largely the best employees. Amazon may see higher rates of turnover, sourced largely from the best part of their workforce.

They lowered incentives/bonuses and increased wages. The hard workers seem to have been punished.

It sounds like they are all Democrats or something?

Bezos is working that cronyism, too. By pushing for a federal min wage hike, he's crippling any competition before it can get legs.

Damn son. Good point, I didn’t even consider that angle.

At least unions provide training, pensions, and collective bargaining.

Unions don't provide training and they don't fund the pensions. The employer funds the pension as well as health benefits. Collective bargaining has fricked may union members over the years. The IAM killed Eastern Airlines bargaining grossly inflated wages for unskilled workers (porters, baggage handlers, etc.) while also bargaining fair wages for it's skilled workers - machinists and technicians. Skilled workers found work after the shut down but their pensions were gutted. Unskilled workers took jobs making half what they made at Eastern. 45,000 people, including my father, lost their jobs....but the union claimed it a "victory".

Look at Avondale. One of the most important shipyards in the nation. For over half a century. Activists and Union reps come in, force Union crap down everyone's throats, the shipyard is dead in little over 10 years.
Bye bye jobs.
The Unions declare victory. Workers are screwed.
Same old story.

frick Unions.

I think it’s the people who were already over 15 that would be pissed. They busted their arse to get where they are and now everyone below them gets a free ride up to that. Now those higher up aren’t getting the bonuses and whatnot. To me it has to be an equal or at least scaled increase for everyone.

If you’re saving right, a raise should always be a little disappointing when you see how much more it actually nets you per check.

Lol be careful what you wish for. I mean what did these long time employees think was going to happen? Amazon guy didnt get rich by being stupid. He gave them what they wanted, a raise. By giving them what they wanted he cornholed them good. Lol. Did they not realize there was no way Amazon was going to not make it back somehow? Yay 15 dollar minimum... Congrats to all you liberals yall got what yall wanted lulz

Her region has a tight local labor market, so she already makes more than $15 an hour.
In an “all hands” meeting at the start of her shift on Thursday — her first day at work after the pay raise was announced — she learned Amazon was raising her base pay by $1 an hour.
But it was also ending monthly attendance and productivity bonuses, known as the Variable Compensation Plan, or V.C.P. And she would no longer be granted valuable Amazon shares. The trade-off meant she’d be losing money,

This isn’t a valid complaint? She’s not a minimum wage worker who complained and wanted a $15 minimum wage. She was already making more than that...

Some workers believe that means their total compensation will shrink.

Hahahaha.

"I demand $15 per hour!"

"Oh shite, I was already making more than $15 per hour. Now I'm making less. This isn't fair!"

My company took away quarterly and annual bonuses from us. I lost a sure $10k b/c of that,

My company has cut out vacation pay out, which was netting me similar. They also cut reimbursements for other things, and we have been told to expect our healthcare costs to increase in 2019.

This is probably normal stuff for 80% of the working public. If you aren't getting benefits cut, be happy.
