You're possessions own you more than you own them.

I just asked my wife when I get to live in a tree and never use electronics again.

Maybe he is working 7/12’s on a shutdown at one of the paper mills. Instead of renting out an expensive short time rental he chooses to live in his van and found a safe, free and relaxing spot to camp out on. It sounds like he’s going somewhere during the day so…

1) there are a bunch of YouTube channels of people choosing to live “van life”. Some of them are more primitive than others. So he might be one of these.

Or

2) a lot of nice vacation spots (especially mountain towns) have gotten so prices that employees of the service industry can’t afford to live (even like 4 to an apartment).

Hell I have 3.5k sq feet and a half acre - I'm happy to just wake up every day - sounds like this dude is just just doing what he wants. As long he doesn't cause anything or anyone harm - let him him be.

I have a friend who recently retired from his sales job.
He bought a Mercedes transit van and had it redone as a camper with Ac/heat/ toilet/ shower.
Keeps his kayak on top of it strapped down for fishing.
He travels working service industry jobs in Tennessee in the summer and Arizona in the winter.

He retired well off and his goal to travel with nothing to tie him down.

It’s probably a $150,000 sprinter van.

Not saying this is that guy’s situation, but I know several people that do something similar.

The people I know want to live in the mountains but it is a little too far for them to sit “on call” for their job. So, they own vans and when “on call” they drive to a state park within the “on call” distance and read, watch movies, and exercise out of their van.
