Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul testified that, after St. George's creation was approved by voters, the city-parish asked all department heads to prepare two budgets: a standstill budget and one contemplating a 20% budget cut. Such a cut, he said, would have a "significantly detrimental impact" on the police department's ability to do its job and would force layoffs.
oh Muprhy....

See this is what i'm talking about. You act like $176M was stolen from us and i just don't believe that number. What does that number even represent specifically?
Four years at 44 million dollars a year of SG taxes has gone to the EBR Parish general fund. If totals 176 million dollars.
Now I realize we have gotten some services, but I know we haven’t gotten close to that. It’s gone to BRPD, BRFD, and a lot of other services that aren’t in SG.[

no shite, which is why i'm asking questions.
the root of what i'd like to see his how corrupt and inept the BR gov't is[/quote]
Great. This trial is what you need to follow closely. The city is admitting that they balance their budget and pay millions of dollars in city expenses with out money.
And you are tight, it is corrupt. They aren’t using it to fully staff tgd PD. They weren’t cleaning out drains. They don’t pick up trash.
So where are the millions going?
Go read the CP budget. It’s all there.

The most "legal" argument is that there is a requirement of a plan and the incorporators didn't create a legally-sufficient one.
This sounds weak AF.
I've never been to BR. From being on this board for a long time, I get the impression that the city is heading towards a Jackson, MS conclusion. Birmingham did this back in the 70's. The city has been slowly coming back since then. I hope that one day my kids or grandchildren are able to live in the areas my grandparents did back in the 40's and 50's.

I think the City of St. George will strengthen EBR parish as a whole over the long term. We need to keep people in the parish and grow responsibly.

People are not going to switch from their private schools to public even if all of this goes the way they want it to. They'll say they are waiting for the schools to improve, not understanding that putting the good families back into public is the only way that happens.
You literally have nothing to base that assumption on.

It is a weak argument.
StG’s counter-argument is that they drew up what was constitutionally required in order to get the petition approved and that any further plan required transition meetings between EBR and StG, I believe.
Can’t readily draw up a plan of government if the outgoing authority isn’t willing to talk with you about what expected transition costs, revenue streams, etc, are.

Just as both Zachary and central have.

Oh the straps on that muzzle were straining on the first day. When they snap, the veritable oral diarrhea that will spew from that hellhound will be the undoing of their entire case against SG. I cannot wait

One thing about BR is that our rough neighborhoods are mostly off in their own bubble. I say this generally speaking, because there are several rough patches in south BR. For the most part, though, the worst of the worst is regulated to one part of town.
That used to be the case. Hasn't been for a few years now. The bubble got popped by SWB and Puppet Paul

You failed to mention a wall.
When do you get to the part about building a wall?

I don't know what BREC parks you're going to but BR has a great park system. It's one of the few bright spots. That and Library system.

It’s a virtual wall with license plate reading cameras. Like what Central is putting in.

Day to day parks? They are fine.
What the poster I was referring to was asking for was something like the athletic complex in Mandeville with multiple large gyms set up for all different kinds of events.
He was specifically bitching about the conditions of the soccer fields at Burbank and at Independence Park.

Gotcha. I have only gone fishing at Burbank, haven't paid attention to those soccer fields.
Perhaps there's no big complex like that because BREC has the zoo to suck up money? Dunno, grasping at straws

I think a lot of lower middle class families in the area might be forced into public schools with the way the economy and inflation is going. Then there's another percentage that will welcome the savings if the schools are actually improved.
I think you're drastically underestimating the value of good public schools. Look at Zachary in the 2000's.

They might not quite have enough money to but twitter, but they could probably afford Myspace. Bottom line, they are ridiculously overfunded and keep enjoying the spoils because everyone is going to renew their millage.

Y'all don't leave out Tarsha and the COA. They got a swanky new office and are building a state of the art vehicle maintenance building for all of those new vans they just bought.
BR government has money falling out of their collective rear end, taken from all corners of the parish, yet the city is falling to pieces. At some point, the "funding problem" argument gets real weak.

If I remember correctly, there is more money expended on the library system in Baton Rouge than in some entire states. Over staffing and hiring nepotism being major leeches on the budget.
