So if a cop asks you for your id, that's disrespectful?
They were inconvenienced by the officer by having to pull over, stop doing what they were doing. How do you know they weren't in a hurry somewhere?
And from what it appears the girl did give the cop her ID.
So ,what is you beef again?

Do you cop bashers assume every cop in this country is a shite bag and you feel you should never show them respect or do what they ask you to do?
Cops are not your friend. Some cops are just looking to make an arrest because it makes them look better, and they do not care about serving justice or your possible innocence. Because of these some cops everyone has to look out for getting run over by all cops and getting in trouble for something should have never been an issue to begin with.

When you legally decline, and the cop threatens to take your lineage into state custody amidst your arrest, that is, indeed, disrespectful.
To the rest of your post--that is your decision. And it is also the real problem here: people exchange their rights for freedom when rights are supposed to guarantee freedom.
These laws are the only structure we have to force the cops to play by the rules, and it's clearly not enough.

Driver of the vehicle provided ID.

The cop asked for the driver's ID... she gave it to him.
When nothing came up on her ID he then stated he wanted the passenger's ID because he "looks like someone with warrants".
You're goddamn right it's disrespectful.

Would you acquiesce if they came to your front door also?

Me and my German (kind of ironic) friend were having a similar discussion yesterday.
He said back in Germany if you get pulled over, it's for a specific reason and that reason only. Speeding? Here's your ticket, see ya later.
In US you get pulled over for speeding... Any drugs in the car? Can I search the vehicle? No? Are you hiding something? Etc.

So. No secondary offenses in Germany?
Posted on 10/6/14 at 11:25 am to meauxjeaux2
Had this dipshit not been recording this, i would bet they never ask him a single question.
HE drew attention to himself.
Cops are always finding criminals during routine traffic stops. Don't act like one and you won't be one.

Or in this case:
"you look like someone with warrants"
and
"the driver is acting nervous"
Obviously criminals.

Love how the cop said "she's being nervous" as he threatened to take her newborn, for his justification to use the K9, which gave the silent alert, in case anyone was wondering.

You simply don't understand how this works. Rules are rules, both sides are supposed to play by them.

So filming the police during a bullshite stop is criminal behavior?
Or maybe asking for a justifiable reason for being detained is acting like a criminal?

I'm sure if other infractions are obvious, then yes.
But they don't want a DNA sample and and your life story for a routine traffic stop.

ALL cops aren't bad. To me this is like the damn Muslim's that are good who don't participate in helping stop the bad ones.
Good cops need to step forward on shite like this and run the bad ones out of the department! Why would you want to serve with a cop as fricking DUMB as this ignorant little shite?
And, TWO other cops participated!
Cops are slowly making their own jobs more dangerous eroding the trust of the public. WHY IN THE frick DID THIS COP DO THIS?
There was no probable cause people. Yes, the passenger could have made it easier for the cop to illegally gain his information, but he doesn't have to. The cop should have handed her back her license and told them to have a wonderful evening.
We see this all the time in these towns who hire these little shite failures to all of a sudden have a gun and badge to push people around.
Again, WHY DON"T THE GOOD COPS IN THAT TOWN COME FORWARD AND FORCE THIS LITLLE frick OUT?
All of them have just had their jobs become more difficult by this fricking jackleg!

all i got from your replies is that your bitter about something and irrational.
Ok. You have a reading comprehension problem.
quote:
So if a cop asks you for your id, that's disrespectful?
Not what I said. I said i'd be respectful if they were, but I wouldn't sacrifice my rights.
quote:
What good is it for you to go out and prove what your rights are and what not with a cop?
I don't understand this question. I don't go out and prove anything, but if I'm in an encounter with police I excercise my rights as a US citizen as deemed by the constitution and the revised code of Ohio.
quote:
does it make you feel good? Do you feel like you gave it to the cop?
It actually does feel good to exercise my rights. I get a rush when voting, when protesting, when voicing my opinion and when not succumbing to unreasonable search and seizure. It makes me proud to live in this great country.
quote:
SHowing your id to a officer isnt' some tragic sacrifice of rights.
That's your opinion.
quote:
I've been pulled over and had my car searched twice for no reason. I don't have anything to hide, and i tell them that. THey search the car, realize i'm not the criminal they may suspected i was and i was on my way without a ticket.
You have that right. I also have the right to refuse them consent to search. There's nothing wrong with that even when I have nothing to hide.
quote:
Had this dumbass, or many of you, been in my situations, i feel like you may have ended up in jail trying to prove some stupid point.
I was in a similar situation and had my rights infringed upon and was threatened with jail. I was ready to go to jail honestly. I had nothing to be afraid of. In the end, the superior officer released me due to my being in the right after being cuffed and detained. And the fact that you call it a stupid point merely confirms my suspicion that you're oblivious to what's happening in the United States today.
quote:
WOuld you rather cops assume no one is suspicious of criminal activity ever? DO you know how often routine traffic stops turn into major violations b/c the cop asked more questions? But i guess you'd rather them not ask any questions and let cars drive away with 100's of thousands of dollars in drugs in them.
Drugs should be legalized, but that's besides the point. If police don't have cause to search then yes, those people should be free to go.

the passenger does not have to show ID
Ooops
Because passengers present a risk to officer safety equal to the risk presented by the driver, an officer may ask for identification from passengers and run background checks on them as well. - United States v. Rice, 483 F.3d 1079 (10th Cir. 2007)

the passenger does not have to show ID
Why would he?
I don't think this is correct... If so I feel like it would have been adjudicated by the Supreme Court and wouldn't happen anymore. Kinda like the Mirada rights thing, how supreme Cour rruling changes policy and procedures.
Tell me where I'm wrong.

Bull fricking shite. They asked him questions because he excersized his rights and refused to obey and unlawful order.

You mean recording a cop is now criminal like? Or riding shotgun to a person of a different race?
