what's most disturbing about this is the accountability factor coming from the police chief.
He specifically says the cop had no right to use CPS as a tactical advantage yet says the cop did nothing wrong.
Just needs a little sensitivity training.
fricking bullshite. The Police chief is telling his entire force that it is ok to abuse citizens rights and he has their backs.

I sent him this letter to his facebook, I couldn't find his email. I might be a little verbose but it's the best I could do in the short amount of time:

quote:

Hi Mr. Stockett,

I'm sure you're getting thousands of emails and messages due to your actions with the Sandusky Police Department, but I wanted to add one more.

I am in awe of the courage you showed in the face of complete disregard of law by the Sandusky PD, and I want to commend you and give you support to let you know that I and many others appreciate the stand that you took in a terrible situation.

Knowing the fact that you may be illegally arrested for exercising your 4th amendment rights and thus having your child removed from your care had to have been a frightening situation but you stayed the course and will make this country a better place for your son even though it might not look like it now. Having the forethought to videotape the encounter in and of itself was commendable, but to not bow down to intimidation tactics and profiling (let alone the blatant trampling of the United States Constitution) was awe-inspiring.

I hope you don't dismiss these words as mere hyperbole, I truly believe was inspired by your actions. I was wondering if you contacted the ACLU among other non-profit legal channels to represent you in your case. If you haven't, I encorage you to do so. On another note, have you established a place online for people to donate to your legal efforts and if so do you have a link that I could share?

I don't expect you to respond, I'm sure you're very busy dealing with the ramifications of your stand that you took with the police and caring for your family but if you could provide me with a link I would be more than willing to share it with those that agree with my sentiments.

Again, thank you for your fortitude in the face of these malicious actions and take solace in the fact that you can live with yourself knowing you did the honorable and noble thing for yourself, your significant other, and your son.

Sincerely,

CosmoKramer

What a fricked up system we are ruled by that had this man not had a camera, he would have been jailed or fined and possibly lost his child; but because he had a camera, he's either still going to get fricked or he's going to get paid--all depending on the local laws, the capability of his attorney, and the judge. Heck of a justice system we have here, folks. Your tax dollars at work.

He should be thankful that he was not charged with violating federal wiretapping laws when he recorded his rights being stripped from him.

Because a cop asked for it; when a cop tells you to do something, you do it.

Exactly. Never, ever use your constitutional rights in a confrontation with police.

I don't understand what it would hurt to show your id and avoid any confusion and conflicts.
Why people want to make a scene as if every officer in this country is a piece of shite cop is just retarded.

Do you cop bashers assume every cop in this country is a shite bag and you feel you should never show them respect or do what they ask you to do?
Is it that hard to just be respectful and comply with his requests? 99.9% of the time you do that, there are no issues and you are on your way in no time, assuming you aren't a criminal.

This one clearly was a POS and a law breaker.

IF they show me respect, I show them respect. But I don't let them trample my rights.

Not if complying means sacrificing my rights within the law.

Bull. shite. People get messed with all the time, even when the sacrifice their rights. Nearly every time someone stands up to an unlawful order, they encounter resistance by police because they can't get that person to follow said unlawful order and then go on a power trip. Police need to understand that when they throw down an ultimatum that is unlawful, they will be punished. That won't happen unless people like the guy in the video do what they do.

when the police are the ones causing the conflicts why should I, as a protected citizen of the United States have to succumb to their illegal(by US law) ways?

I would just hand it to him, but I don't get this treatment often, if ever. I'm sure this guy has had a different experience. Most young black males have.

The cop showed these people and their rights no respect.

You have the right to freely move about this entire nation, some of you seemingly forget that when a badge steps in your way.

all i got from your replies is that your bitter about something and irrational.

So if a cop asks you for your id, that's disrespectful?
What good is it for you to go out and prove what your rights are and what not with a cop? does it make you feel good? Do you feel like you gave it to the cop?

SHowing your id to a officer isnt' some tragic sacrifice of rights.

I've been pulled over and had my car searched twice for no reason. I don't have anything to hide, and i tell them that. THey search the car, realize i'm not the criminal they may suspected i was and i was on my way without a ticket.
I could have been an arse and said no. It was 2 in the morning, i had tinted windows and a bunch of shite in the back of my car. I was able to understand their reasoning and let them do what they needed to do to feel good about themselves.

I've had 3 instances of cops being a arse to me getting pulled over. All three instances resulted in 0 tickets and 0 conflicts b/c i was respectful and did what they asked of me.
Had this dumbass, or many of you, been in my situations, i feel like you may have ended up in jail trying to prove some stupid point.

WOuld you rather cops assume no one is suspicious of criminal activity ever? DO you know how often routine traffic stops turn into major violations b/c the cop asked more questions? But i guess you'd rather them not ask any questions and let cars drive away with 100's of thousands of dollars in drugs in them.
