So the answer is to throw more money at failure? Nah bro, the answer is coming real soon. Unfortunately, it won’t just be the fat that gets trimmed though. It will be progress, just not the progress the progressives will like.

My kids go to private school, and I don't live in EBR's district anyway, so this doesn't affect me, but if you want to expect better teaching, it's easier to retain and recruit better teachers when you pay more than the surrounding areas. Then, you can let the below average teachers go.

Maybe apples to apples but this isn’t apples to apples. It’s much cheaper to just move to a better government school system if that’s your preferred institution to enrich and educate your child. Powerman doesn’t like the middle class man doing that though.

I guess you never learned about answering a question with a question. That shows how foolish you are.

salary

When I worked for the state everyone was in it for the pension. Long timers in my office discussed it almost everyday.

So you’re saying that me as a taxpayer, whose family full of taxpayers who have never had a child attend government schools but has funded government schools for the majority of their lives, can’t complain about salaries my family and I have paid for decades that has produced piss poor results?

Please tell me you’re not.

How much do you think you yourself (and your family, sure add them in) contribute to the general salary pool in tax revenue?

Just dumb enough for you to spend your 902nd post on me, which is only a one of your posts in the last 15 years. Which nerve did I touch?

Honestly, I’m guessing $3.50.

Probably enough to pay at least three, if not more, of a teacher’s salary and retirement over the last 100 years. I’m not sure of the relevancy of that question, since my family and I are tax paying citizens who have never put a child through the government system. Are you willing to give me and my family’s money back? It’s okay. I’m not asking for that. I’m asking to pay less going forward. So are you Powerman’s alter?

I’m reading this poorly written article in the local newspaper (toilet paper) where they want to give teachers and support staff in EBR an 8% or $6,000 raise. Like bro, the school system is shite, and I know some teachers. The only way I’d be down with this, is if they cut all the bs administrative fat and fired all these looney toon teachers. Even then, I still think you’re paying a lot of glorified babysitters too much money.

EBR teacher here. I took last year off from classroom teaching (I also own a business), but I am going back this fall, in part because of the raises.

Do you know how badly EBR struggles to hire enough math teachers? How well do you think that students learn when they only have subs for months?

Two years ago, my school had a newly -hired math teacher quit the day before school started (he was afraid of getting COVID). After a month of the school trying to work other things out, I volunteered to teach them as well as my own students. I would have a paraprofessional in each room, and I would teach a concept in one room and tell them to try the next problem while I would step next door to teach the other class.

I did that for a month, and it nearly killed me, until the school figured out that our keyboarding teacher was actually certified in math. She hated teaching math, because she knew that she wasn't very good at it, but she was certified and better than nothing, and I didn't kill myself with overwork.

You think that the school system is shite? How does it get better when classrooms are filled with subs?

I'll call SWB tomorrow and tell her that, moving forward, all of your and your family's taxes will now need to go to EMS and other worthy causes and not EBRPSS. That work?

Sucks that you had to deal with that. Sounds like the person they chose had other plans and left the school high and dry. I could make some assumptions of the type of person based on the information you provided. It’s probably best they don’t teach in the government school system anyway.

Hopefully you were paid more for your hard work. I’m all for merit based pay, but I know how corrupt the system is and that just doesn’t work. If you do more work then you definitely deserve more pay.

Nah bro, that’s not how it works. I already pay those other taxes. My money needs to go back into my pocket. Keep up.

If they are flushed with this amount of cash to fund this crap, then we need to cut taxes paid through property tax to fund this crap.

The renewal was just on the ballot in March? A whopping 14% of EBR voters showed up to vote.

Since no one person pays the majority of their salaries, no middle class guy should be able to voice an opinion, according to Powerman.

To the other poster talking about the most recent election, there will be another election soon enough. The status quo will change regardless of this election though. It’s about to get real good for the working man. There’s hope.
