The used market is absurd. I just sold a 2011 F-150 Lariat with 165,000 miles on it that needed a new main seal and steering rack for $15K to a dealership. They will fix it and resell for $20k no problem.

Yeah I wanted just a F150 XLT 4x4 recently. Due to low inventory all they had was Lariats. Guy trying to get me to pay sticker $63k. frick that I’ll keep my Tundra. I’m ok with paying around $45k but more than that, I have a mental hangup.

You can get a "Regular" Silverado 2500 LT for under $50k.

very very top of the line GMC. SO it is a luxury vehicle

Nah. It's got bells and whistles.....sure. But when you bring it to the dealership for service, you get treated the same as any other GMC. Wheras the "luxury" brands (at least around me) will come pick up the vehicle, loan you a similar vehicle to the one you have, provide snacks and drinks, etc.. Hell, the Mercedes dealership by me brings in a chef to cook lunch for anyone who brings in their vehicle around lunch time.

When I bring in my Ford, I'm lucky if they have a vending machine. Doesn't matter if it's a platinum or not.

i found plenty on autotempest in the 80k range prior to making the post. like i said, that market is in a bubble, too

in a couple years there are going to be some deals on high level cars when people realize they're very upside down

OK so now we're comparing 2014-15 GTRs to 2022 trucks? The GTR actually isn't a good case to make your bubble argument. Prices on those aren't popping until gas cars are outlawed. The original 2009 GTRs started at about 68k. The damn car won't depreciate under 60k because of the low production numbers. It sucks because I want one but not paying that much for such an old car.

They are $80k because idiots buy them

I’ve yet to sit in a new American truck and think “wow this is quality and worth the money”

Dudes line up to drop $50k plus on a truck they don’t need to pull a boat or trailer once a year and the rest of the year drive around with just a dog kennel in the back

rapidly depreciating asset

O rly? Taken a look at a used lot lately? The days of rapid depreciation are gone. And with manufacturers cutting ICE to push out electric, we are not long for something never before seen: used car appreciation.

Invest now.

GMC trucks have never been cheap. The "luxury" level is out of this world on top line GMC trucks.

the problem isn't the price, it's that people are buying them at these astronomical prices

Recently went through this with a Toyota 4Runner. You can get exactly what you want...but you'll have to wait for delivery. That's pretty much with every brand right now.

The local Chevrolet dealer near me had 0 new vehicles last week, and only a handful of used ones. The new cars and trucks they get are sold by the time they are delivered to the dealership.

Go to Carfax or Cars.com

You can buy work trucks for less than 30k. Mid level trip below 45k. The 80k rig has all the trappings of the travel ball lifestyle.

It’s not even debatable. No one outside of your local southern trash town looks at a GMC, whether Denali or not, and thinks “luxury”

And they'll probably get it from someone who just has to have a Telluride. I passed a Kia dealer a couple weeks ago and counted 12 vehicles on the front lot, 7 Kias, no Tellurides, and 5 assorted used vehicles.

I saw a used 2021 SR5 4Runner for $54,000 yesterday. 12 months ago that was a $36000 vehicle brand new, hell we bought my wife's 2019 TRD Offroad Premium for $40k brand new. I plugged it in a few of those wholesale sites and was offered between $44k-$46k with 36000 miles.

ETA: My brother was one of the few that hit it just right as the pandemic was beginning. He got a 2020 Tundra TSS Package for $39,000. He's a tech at a car dealership and they've offered him $50k for it a few times already.

Trucks have become so ugly and expensive and dumbasses keep buying them. It's only gonna get worse.
